North Georgia's Vaishali Jorge and the Columbus State doubles team of Beatriz Lopez and Marleen Tilgner all won titles at the ITA Southeast Regionals and will advance to the ITA Cup national finals later this month.
Jorge upset fourth-seeded Marleen Tilgner from Columbus State and fifth-seeded Michela Verpelli from Wingate in three-set thrillers to advance to the final round where she swept past Columbus State's Luise Sachs to win the draw. Jorge is the first singles player in UNG tennis history to advance out of the ITA regional round. Holly Bennett and Felicia Baratta advanced out as a doubles pair a year ago.
Beatriz Lopez and Marleen Tilgner captured the Southeast Region doubles title to punch their ticket into the ITA Oracle Cup.
Lopez and Tilgner rolled right through four matches before a showdown with teammates Noa Davico and Luise Sachs on Monday.
In singles action, Sachs made the deepest run, winning five consecutive matches. The sophomore was defeated in the final however, keeping the Lady Cougars from a sweep of the titles.
Noa Davico, Beatriz Lopez and Marleen Tilgner all made it to the quarterfinals for the Lady Cougars, who had half of the eight players that reached the quarters.
The ITA Cup will be held Oct. 11-14 at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Ga. Winners from this event advance to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Ariz.
