NCAA Softball: Young Harris soars past Eagles in Round Two of the Southeast Regional 7-1

HICKORY, N.C.  |  Young Harris College defeated Carson-Newman University 7-1 in the second round of the NCAA softball Southeast Regional Tournament Friday (May 11) afternoon at Bears Field. 

The Mountain Lions improved to 34-18 on the season while the Eagles fell to 33-20. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (May 12) in the Southeast Regional final at noon. 

Biz Walters came around to score in the fourth inning after Kristan Lizardi reached on an error to put the Mountain Lions on the board. Madison Urquiola singled up the middle to score Murphy Davis to make it a 2-0 YHC lead. Emily Harris hit a single down the left field line that scored Lizardi. Haylie Shope concluded the four-run fourth inning with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. 

Jill Torres sent a two-run blast over the left field fence in the top of the fifth inning to give the Mountain Lions a 6-1 advantage. 

Grace Botti doubled to right field in the sixth inning to score Hannah Harrison to make it a 7-1 game for YHC.

Dharma Rosbrugh got the Eagles to ground into a 1-6-3 double play to end the game.

Rosbrugh (21-10) picked up the win for the Mountain Lions as she allowed four hits with two walks and three strikeouts in four innings of scoreless relief. 

Torres collected one hit, two RBI, and a run scored. Harris tallied three hits and a RBI while Harrison went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Botti had two hits and a RBI, Urquiola had a hit and a RBI while Shope collected one RBI and Davis had a hit and two runs scored.

Lacie Rinus (23-13) earned the loss for Carson-Newman as she allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched.
