INDIANAPOLIS, IND – For the
second year in a row, four PBC teams will play for the men’s
basketball national championship as the full 64-team field was
released by the NCAA on Sunday night. Augusta State will host the
regional for the fourth year in a row while GCSU, USC Aiken and
Montevallo also received bids to the tournament. The regional will
be played Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, March 13, 14 and 16, at the
George A. Christenberry Fieldhouse in Augusta.
ASU is the #1 ranked team in the nation and are looking for their PBC-record third-straight trip to the NCAA Elite Eight. The Jaguars are 26-3 overall on the season and are undefeated on the year at home. ASU will face Brevard in the first round, who received the South Atlantic Conference automatic bid.
GCSU is the #3 seed for the southeast regional. Ranked #14 in the nation, the Bobcats will be looking for their first trip to the Elite Eight since 1999 and second overall. GCSU is 22-5 on the year and will face sixth-seeded USC Aiken in the first round.
USC Aiken won the 2010 PBC Tournament on Sunday night, beating Montevallo in the championship game. USCA will return to the NCAA regional for the third straight year and reached the regional final in 2009. 19-10 overall on the year, the Pacers face GCSU in the first round.
In their first year as a part of the
Peach Belt Conference, Montevallo earns an at-large bid to the NCAA
Tournament. The Falcons got off to their best start in school
history at 12-0 and were ranked as high as 13th nationally. The
Falcons defeated Augusta State in the semifinals of the PBC
Tournament and fell to USC Aiken in the finals. 23-7 overall on the
season, UM will face second-seeded Mt. Olive in the first
