Young Harris Wins Peach Belt Baseball Tournament!

ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA – Young Harris got two home runs from Dahlton Cash as they defeated USC Aiken 5-2 to win their first PBC baseball tournament championship on Sunday in St. Augustine.  With the win, the Mountain Lions earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will make their first national tournament appearance next week.

Cash entered the game with only two home runs on the season but hit a pair of solo shots in the third and eighth innings.  The junior first baseman finished the contest going 4-for-5 at the plate with a single, a double and the two homers.  He was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Mountain Lions jumped out early with a pair of runs in the second and third innings to stake a 4-0 lead.  Zavier Lushington led off the second with a single and later scored on Cole Jackson's RBI single.    Cash later scored on a fielder's choice groundout by Corley Reynolds.

Lushington, named the Tournament MVP, stroked an RBI double to center field in the third inning, but was thrown out at third as he overslid the bag.  That was followed by Cash's first home run.

USCA answered with a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Jackson Hannon that plated Scott Huntley.

Following a nearly three-hour lightning delay, the Pacer scored again in the bottom of the seventh as Phillip Watcher led off with a double and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Pacers had the tying run at the plate in the eighth and ninth inning, but were unable to bring them in. USCA stranded nine baserunners in the game.

Young Harris starter Drew Wilson (W, 5-4) got the win with five innings of work, allowing one run on three hits with one walk and six strikeouts.  McClain Harris (S, 7) got the save with two-thirds of an inning of perfect relief.

USC Aiken starter Henry Cartrett (L, 1-4) was the first of five Pacers to take the mound on Sunday, none of whom pitched more than three innings.  Pacer pitchers issued only one walk and struck out a combined six batters.

The NCAA Tournament selections will be announced on Sunday night at 10pm.  The selection show can be watched live at
