Persson was at the heart of the Lander men’s tennis dynasty. From 1993-97 he won four straight national championships as part of Lander’s historic run of eight straight. The most decorated men’s tennis player in Lander tennis history he was inducted into the Lander Athletics Hall of Fame.
From Smalandstennar, Sweden, Persson was a three-time All-American and twice named an Academic All-American. Playing at #1 singles, he was twice named the PBC Player of the Year and was the first of the 10 players in league history to be named All-Conference all four years he played and twice named the Lander Male Athlete of the Year.
In 1997, he was selected as a member of the Rolex/Tennis Magazine Collegiate All-Star Team and won the national Arthur Ashe Award. He was the national ITA Senior of the Year and became the only non-Division I player to win the prestigious Dan Magill Award, which is given to the athlete in all of NCAA tennis who best exhibits athletic ability, sportsmanship, academic success and concern for others.
Persson, who graduated cum laude, is currently the vice president and head of the research team at DecisionPoint in Charlotte, N.C.
