Flagler Wins Second Consecutive Peach Belt Title With 3-0 Win
FLORENCE, S.C. − Meg Weathersby recorded her sixth consecutive double-double, and 12th overall, with a match-high 14 kills and 12 digs to help lead Flagler College to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 26-24) win over the Francis Marion University in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon at the Smith University Center.
Flagler extended its winning streak to eight matches and improved to 24-7 overall and a 13-1 record in conference play. The win also secures the Flagler’s second consecutive regular season title and the top seed going into next weekend’s conference tournament in Savannah. Francis Marion suffered its second consecutive loss, and its fifth loss in its last six matches, to fall to 15-15 overall and 4-10 in league play. The Patriots are the No. 7 seed in the conference tournament.
Weathersby hit .343 for the match with only two errors on 35 swings. Laura Beth Lancaster added 12 kills and hit .360. Casey Gnann collected a team-high 17 digs while Rebecca Royal tallied a team-high 27 assists and added four kills and two total blocks. Olivia Snipes tacked on 14 assists.
Riley Forester recorded nine kills and three total blocks to lead the Patriots. Liz Drewry added 12 assists, nine digs and seven kills. Kelsie Deaton collected a match-high 22 digs. Hallie Legg tallied 17 assists and eight digs.
Flagler hosts No. 12 (NAIA) Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in the final home match of the season.
