Six PBC Women’s Tennis Teams to Play in NCAA Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, IND – Six Peach Belt Conference women’s tennis teams will continue their seasons as the NCAA released the 48-team field for the 2012 national championship from the national office in Indianapolis on Tuesday night. The PBC teams will be playing in the southeast region which is split into two four-team, single-elimination events. Armstrong Atlantic State is the top seed of the whole region and will host one regional, while Columbus State is the #2 seed and will host the other half of the bracket. The winners at both sites will advance to the NCAA Spring Sports Festival in Louisville, Ky., May 16-19.
The Peach Belt is one of two conference to send six teams to the NCAA Tournament, joining the Sunshine State for the most in the nation.
Armstrong (23-0) is the No. 1 seed in the Southeast Regional and will face No. 8 seed and fellow Peach Belt Conference school Augusta State (11-11) at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 30, in one regional semifinal match. The other semifinal match pits No. 4 seed Erskine (23-3) out of Conference Carolinas against No. 5 seed Flagler (9-9) from the Peach Belt, also at 10:00 a.m. on Monday.
The Lady Cougars will take on seventh-seed Georgia College in the opening round of the tournament on Sunday, April 29 at 9:00 a.m. Earlier this season, CSU defeated the Bobcats 8-1.
Also in the Columbus bracket will be third-seed Francis Marion and sixth-seed Wingate. These two teams will face off at noon on Sunday.
