Armstrong's Rumenov; FMU's Gavdunova Named Tennis Players of the Week

Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Georgi Rumenov, Armstrong Atlantic State

Rumenov made a splash in his Armstrong debut this week, knocking off a pair of ranked opponents in singles play and leading the No. 3-ranked Pirates to two wins on the week ... Defeated No. 1-ranked Lucas Jovita of Rollins, 6-1, 6-1, on Friday ... Dispatched No. 32 Matt Nicholson-Lewis of Saint Leo, 6-2, 6-2, on Thursday ... Teamed with Eudaldo Bonet to pick up doubles wins over No. 8 Rollins and No. 18 Saint Leo.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Jitka Gavdunova, Francis Marion
Sr. • Vejprty, Czech Republic

Gavdunova was flawless in her first match of the 2012 season, blanking Mt. Olive’s Molly Lentini 6-0, 6-0 at #1 singles in the Patriots’ season opener.  She partnered with Mona Blauen at #1 doubles to beat Mt. Olive’s Pietra Viana and Francesca Ceppi 8-2.  Gavdunova, a preseason All-Conference selection, is ranked #9 in the nation and her doubles team with Blauen is ranked 11th nationally.
