MORROW, Ga. – May 7, 2010 – The Columbus State Lady Cougars wasted little time advancing to the second round of the 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis National Tournament with a 5-0 shutout over rival Augusta State in the Southeast Regional at Clayton State.

11th-ranked Columbus State, which improves to 20-5 overall, advances to Saturday’s second round match and play the winner of Friday’s Clayton State/Georgia College first-round match. 25th-ranked Augusta State concludes its season 12-10 overall.

The Lady Cougars swept all three matches in doubles and won two matches in singles, dropping only a combined two games. In doubles, Loriane Favoretto and Hanane Toumi blanked Augusta State’s Mariana Ferreria and Bianca Machado 8-0 at No. 1, as did Tracy Castillo and Sofia Persson at No. 2 with an 8-0 shutout over Augusta State’s Victoria Linkqvist and Keaton Sanders. Gabriela Vasilescu and Caterina Kiefer won 8-1 at No. 3 over Luiza Pires and Camila Correa from Augusta State.

In singles, Persson won a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Correa at No. 4 for Columbus State, while Kiefer blanked Sanders 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
