Armstrong Atlantic State Wins Women's Tennis Title

SAVANNAH, Ga. (April 12) – The second-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State women's tennis team clinched its fifth straight and 15th overall Peach Belt Conference women's tennis title with an 8-1 win over No. 9-ranked Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon at the AASU Tennis Complex.

The Lady Pirates (23-1, 10-0 PBC) won two of three doubles matches, then won all six singles matches in straight sets over the Patriots (18-1, 8-1 PBC). PBC Player of the Week and second-ranked Iuliia Stupak defeated 10th-ranked Tereza Sykorova, 6-0, 6-1, in a matchup of undefeated singles players at No. 1. Sixth-ranked Johanna Dahlback defeated No. 25-ranked Sarka Vitkova, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, while Alida Muller-Wehlau defeated Jenny Ludwig, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Gabriella Kovacs, Martina Beckmann and Sofia Haggstrom also picked up singles wins as well.

AASU will now take its top seed into next week's 2008 Peach Belt Confernece Tennis Championships, to be hosted by the Pirates.
