PBC Names First Women's Tennis Preseason All-Conference Team

AUGUSTA, GA -- The Peach Belt Conference has released its first-ever women’s tennis Preseason All-Conference team. The six-member team features two players each from Armstrong Atlantic State and Clayton State along with players from Francis Marion and GCSU. The team was selected by the league’s sports information directors.

Armstrong Atlantic State’s Iuliia Stupak was named the PBC Player of the Year in 2007. The senior from Kiev, Ukraine, was a perfect 18-0 in singles and the top-ranked singles player in the nation in both singles and doubles. She is also a two-time All-American for the second-ranked Lady Pirates. Her teammate Johanna Dahlback was named the national ITA Player to Watch and PBC All-Conference last spring. That was prior to her winning the ITA Super Bowl of Small College tennis last fall. A senior from Hasselby, Sweden, Dahlback was 20-3 in singles play last spring and begins the 2008 season the #2-ranked singles player in the nation.

Clayton State’s Julia Chergova was named PBC All-Conference in both singles and doubles and an ITA All-American after the spring 2007 season. The senior from Sofia, Bulgaria, was 14-4 in dual match play in spring 07 and, along with partner Anna Redesci, finished fourth in the nation in doubles last fall. Redesci was also named to the preseason All-Conference team. A sophomore from Gyongyos, Hungary, she was named the national ITA Rookie of the Year in 2007 and the PBC Freshman of the Year. She had a 15-3 overall record in singles and was 9-1 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Sarka Vitkova of Francis Marion was also named to the preseason team. A senior from Humpolec, Czech Republic, she compiled a 15-6 record last spring and reached the quarterfinals of the ITA regionals last fall. She is ranked 24th in the nation in singles and seventh in doubles.

Celine Martin of GCSU was named PBC All-Conference in 2007 after a 16-9 record at #1 singles. Now a senior from Amberieux-En-Dombes, France, she has a career 59-25 singles record.
