Columbus State, Georgia Southwestern Win Women's Soccer Team Sportsmanship Award
Columbus State University and Georgia Southwestern State
University will both receive the 2011 women's soccer Team
Sportsmanship Award, the league announced on Tuesday. The Peach
Belt Conference presents one such award for each of its 13
championship sports, the award is voted on by other teams in that
sport with Columbus State and Georgia Southwestern both receiving
the same point totals to share the women's soccer award.
CSU and GSW are the only two women's soccer teams to have ever won
the award. Columbus State took it in 2008 and 2010 with GSW
winning in 2009. This is the fourth year of the awards
program.
The program presents an award following each championship season to
the team in that sport that best exemplifies the spirit of
sportsmanship and generally conducts themselves with a high degree
of integrity, character and class. The team award is selected by
other teams who compete in that sport. Points are awarded based on
how each team finished in the voting and in June, the institution
with the highest totals will receive the ‘PBC Institution of
the Year Sportsmanship Award.’
The league’s Senior Woman Administrators will oversee the
program.
