PBC Soccer Teams Recognized for Success in the Classroom
KANSAS CITY, KS -- Ten Peach Belt Conference women's soccer
teams and two men's teams were honored by the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with the College Team
Academic Award. The award is presented to all teams that
posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher for the 2010-11 academic
year.
Montevallo and North Georgia were two of only 154 schools that had
both their men's and women's teams make the list. The men's
soccer teams from the two schools were also the only PBC men's
teams to be recognized.
On the women's side, 11 of the 12 soccer-playing teams in the Peach
Belt were named to the list. In addition to Montevallo and
North Georgia, the PBC honorees were Armstrong Atlantic State,
Columbus State, Flagler, Georgia College, Georgia Southwestern,
Lander, UNC Pembroke and USC Aiken.
A total of 789 soccer teams across all three divisions (I, II, III
and NAIA) were honored by the NSCAA. 218 of those were men's
teams, 571 women's.
The NSCAA honors cap what has been a very successful academic
season for PBC soccer players with Flagler's Johan Bergfeld and UNC
Pembroke's Alex Antonescu along with Columbus State's Kayla Brown
and Armstrong's Kelli Bahr and Kristina Pascutti all being named
Capitol One/CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
