PBC Soccer Teams Recognized for Success in the Classroom

KANSAS CITY, KS -- Ten Peach Belt Conference women's soccer teams and two men's teams were honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with the College Team Academic Award.  The award is presented to all teams that posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher for the 2010-11 academic year.

Montevallo and North Georgia were two of only 154 schools that had both their men's and women's teams make the list.  The men's soccer teams from the two schools were also the only PBC men's teams to be recognized.

On the women's side, 11 of the 12 soccer-playing teams in the Peach Belt were named to the list.  In addition to Montevallo and North Georgia, the PBC honorees were Armstrong Atlantic State, Columbus State, Flagler, Georgia College, Georgia Southwestern, Lander, UNC Pembroke and USC Aiken.

A total of 789 soccer teams across all three divisions (I, II, III and NAIA) were honored by the NSCAA.  218 of those were men's teams, 571 women's.

The NSCAA honors cap what has been a very successful academic season for PBC soccer players with Flagler's Johan Bergfeld and UNC Pembroke's Alex Antonescu along with Columbus State's Kayla Brown and Armstrong's Kelli Bahr and Kristina Pascutti all being named Capitol One/CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
