| Armstrong Atlantic State (12-3-3, 8-2)
-- The Armstrong Atlantic State women's soccer squad wrapped up the
2009 season with a 5-0 win over Flagler on Thursday afternoon in a
"Kick for the Cure" match ... Freshman Kristina Pascutti scored two
goals and drew a penalty kick, all in the second half, as AASU
clinched a second-place finish in the Peach Belt standings ...
Kristin Burton had a goal and an assist while Erin Holt and Erin
O'Rourke added goals as well for the Pirates ... Burton's goal was
her 24th of the season, setting a new single-season AASU mark ...
Saturday's scheduled match against King (Tenn.) was cancelled due
to inclement weather ... The Pirates will host UNC Pembroke in a
first-round PBC tournament match on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. A win
sends the Pirates to the PBC's Final Four in Evans, Ga., on Friday,
where they would face the winner of third-seeded Lander and
sixth-seeded Flagler. |
| Clayton State (4-10-1, 3-6-1) -- The Clayton State Laker women's soccer team closed out the 2009 season on the short end of a 4-0 defeat Lander on Saturday... The defeat, coupled with UNC Pembroke's victory over North Georgia and Montevallo's tie against Georgia College, eliminated the Lakers from the Peach Belt Conference Tournament... This is the first time since 2003 that Clayton State has failed to advance to the PBC Tournament... Clayton State head coach T.O. Totty came short by one victory of reaching 100 for his Laker career... Sophomore forward Cherie Sayon finished second in the PBC in both goals scored (14) and points (29). |
| Columbus State (15-1-3, 8-1-1) --
Columbus State finishes the 2009 season with their fifth straight
regular season title, secured by the team’s 4-0 win over
Flagler on Sunday. CSU was most recently ranked #7 in the nation
and #2 in the Southeast region, having climbed as high as #3
nationally in 2009. The Lady Cougars host the first round PBC
tournament contest as the #1 seed, playing PBC’s #8
Montevallo at 6:00 PM (EST) on Tuesday, November 3. |

| Flagler (8-8-1, 4-5-1) -- Flagler posted a 1-2
record and finished sixth in the Peach Belt Conference with a 4-5-1
league record. The Saints posted a 4-0 at Georgia Southwestern,
behind a pair of goals from Christina Anthony. The next day Flagler
had a make-up date with Armstrong Atlantic on the road and fell 5-0
and lost to Columbus State in the regular season finale 4-0 at
home. Flagler will hit the road again with a quarterfinal match at
No. 3 seed Lander on Tuesday. |
| GCSU (9-5-5, 5-1-4) -- The Bobcats went
1-0-1 last week with a 2-1 overtime win beating USC Aiken Wednesday
and a double overtime 1-1 tie Saturday against Montevallo …
The ‘Cats are still undefeated this season when they score,
going 9-0-2 … GCSU is also undefeated when Megan McAlpin has
points, going 8-0-1 this season, and 15-0-1 in her two years as a
Bobcat … The Bobcats have faced a total of eight overtime
games for the 2009 campaign with six contests reaching double
overtime … The 14 overtime periods in eight games is a
school record… The Bobcats have yet to lose in overtime play
this season, winning three and tying in five cases … Head
coach Juan Pablo Favero picked up his 100th career win as a women's
coach with the Sept. 18 victory over West Georgia … Georgia
College hosts North Georgia tonight at 7 p.m. for the first round
of the PBC Tournament. … All home games and select road
contests will be broadcast again this season on 88.9FM WGUR and on

| Georgia Southwestern (3-13, 0-10) -- The
Lady Hurricanes dropped their season finale last week, falling 4-0
Wednesday to Flagler on Senior Day. GSW seniors Elizabeth Keller,
Jennifer Pittman and Laura Lowe were recognized before the match.
Southwestern goalkeeper Amber Bahri made 14 saves last week and
extended her PBC lead to 37 with 126 stops during the regular
season – well shy of the school record 181 saves set in
2007-08. The Lady Hurricanes broke a pair of school records this
season: fewest goals allowed (40) and lowest goals against average
(2.56). |
| Lander (10-3-2, 6-3-1) -- Lander captured the
No. 3 seed in the Peach Belt Conference tournament Saturday after
tying a school record with the Lady Bearcats eighth shutout of the
season, a 4-0 victory over Clayton State. Against Clayton State,
Jamie Shaw netted one goal to go along with two assists. On
Wednesday, the Bearcats lost to Montevallo, 1-0. Lander's 10 wins
is the second-most victories in its 12-year history only to 13 in
2007. In PBC statisics, Christina Barbour is fifth in game-winning
goals (3) and goals per game (0.64), sixth in points per game
(1.36), seventh in goals scored (7) and tied for 10th in total
points (19); Jamie Shaw is tied for ninth in assists (5) and tied
for 10th in points (19). In goalkeeping, Chelsea Beetch is second
in shutouts (4), third in save percentage (.857), fourth in goals
against average (0.69), and seventh in total saves (54). |
| Montevallo (6-8-3, 3-5-2) -- The Falcons went 0-1-1 this week as they fell on the road at Columbus State 6-3 before tying Georgia College 1-1... The tie against GCSU clinched the eighth and final spot in the PBC Tournament and set up a rematch between the Falcons and Columbus State... UM is the only team this season to score more than one goal against the Cougars... The Falcons will head to CSU on Tuesday to compete in the first round of the PBC Tournament... The Falcons are led by freshman Paige Scott who has six goals... Sophomore Natalie Martineau leads the team in assists with seven and is second in points with 11. |
| North Georgia (10-4-2, 6-3-1) -- The North Georgia women’s soccer team put up a furious rally down the stretch, but it turned out to be too little too late as the Braves of UNC Pembroke made three first-half goals stand up in a 3-2 victory over the Lady Saints in North Georgia’s only game last week. With North Georgia in a three-way tie for third place, the Lady Saints drop a pair of tiebreakers and enter the Peach Belt Conference Tournament as the #5 seed, traveling to GCSU who captured the fourth seed. The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie earlier this season in Milledgeville, as the Lady Saints will look to advance past the first round of the tournament for the first time since entering the PBC. After falling behind by three goals, North Georgia rallied with goals by Lauren Schenk and Casey Smith, but the Braves’ converted penalty kick in the 58th minute proved to be difference in the game. |
| UNC Pembroke (10-7-1, 4-5-1) -- UNCP had
a successful run last week, 2-0-0, beating both Barton (Oct.28) and
North Georgia (Oct.31) on the road ... During their week of travel
the Lady Braves took 47 shots compared to their opponents combined
16 and are currently sitting in first place in the PBC for total
shots taken (395) ... Midfielder Faye Corbett was instrumental in
UNCP's wins this week, tallying both game-winning assists in their
on-the-road contests ... Britney Joiner picked up a pair of goals
while Rebecca Womack, Anna Svensson, Emily DesJarlais and Brittany
Padilla each tallied a goal ... UNCP heads to Armstrong Atlantic on
Tuesday for the first round of PBC Tournament play. |
| USC Aiken (6-11, 2-8) -- The 2009 USC Aiken women's soccer season ended in heartbreak last Wednesday with Georgia College & State procuring a 2-1 overtime victory over the Pacers at Bobcat Field … The match-winner came off a Bobcat free kick with 38 seconds remaining in the first overtime … The first goal of the match came via the Bobcats in the 85th-minute … The Pacers seemingly heading towards their fifth straight 90-minute regulation shutout, GCSU scored to take the one-goal advantage that they felt would take them to victory … The GCSU tally ended a tremendous season-ending stretch by the Pacer defensive unit of not allowing a goal … The Pacer defense had not given up a goal in just over 501 minutes before surrendering the first goal of the match to the Bobcats … The Pacers would not go down in the match without a fight with Jenny Pineiro (Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) scoring her team-leading seventh goal of the 2009 season … Pineiro took advantage of spotty GCSU defense just over 30 seconds after the GCSU tally to tie the game when she took hold of a failed GCSU clearance attempt that left her alone with an empty net … The loss concluded the 2009 USC Aiken women's soccer campaign with the Pacers owning a 6-11 record overall … USC Aiken concluded the regular season winning four of its last five matches … The loss to GCSU snapped a four-match winning streak for the Pacers … The Pacers with the regular season-ending loss to GCSU last Wednesday evening ended the 2009 Peach Belt Conference season with a 2-8 record … In a season full of being right there for the Pacer women, USC Aiken ended its 2009 Peach Belt Conference slate having been on the losing side of three overtime games in PBC action … In total, USC Aiken finished its 2009 season with nine one-goal losses … The Pacers lost six of their eight games in PBC play by just one goal. |
