Nov 1, 2009 Columbus State Wins 2009 Women's Soccer Championship ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Stephanie Parrish scored a pair of
goals to help lead seventh-ranked Columbus State University to 4-0
win over Flagler College and the 2009 PBC Championship on Sunday in
the final game of the regular season. The regular-season
Championship is the fifth straight for the Cougars, who will enter
next week's PBC Tournament as the #1 seed.
The Cougars won their fifth consecutive regular season title and
will now vie for its fourth straight conference tournament
championship which will start with a quarterfinal match-up against
No. 8 seed University of Montevallo Tuesday (Nov. 3) at 7 p.m.
Flagler will go in as the No. 6 seed and travel to Greenwood, S.C.,
to take on No. 3 seed Lander University at 4:30 p.m.
Columbus State raised its record to 15-1-3 overall and completed
the conference slate with an 8-1-1 record. Flagler fell to 8-8-1
overall and 4-5-1 in conference play.
Parrish scored the first goal of the match in the 26th minute when
she gathered in a loose ball in front of the Flagler bench and
dribbled in one-on-one against the Flagler keeper and put the ball
in the back of the net.
In the 26th minute, Kate Walton scored off an Emily Husted pass in
the box and just over one minute later Parrish scored again this
time taking a feed from Leslie Matthews to give the Cougars a 3-0
advantage.
The final goal came in the second half when Kayla Brown took a pass
from K.C. MacEachern from the right side and dribbled in and scored
in the 54th minute.
Kelly Nimmo tallied four saves in 45 minutes of work while Mary
Mancin recorded two saves in the second half to preserve the
shutout for Columbus State. Christie Reuther (Sarasota,
Fla./Riverview HS) stopped six shots on goal for the Saints.
Columbus State out-shot Flagler 21-12 and held an 11-3 advantage in
corner kicks.
