Mar 19, 2008 UNCP Signs DesJarlais to Women's Soccer Team PEMBROKE – UNCP women’s soccer head coach Lars
Andersson announced the first member of his 2008 signing class on
Tuesday afternoon as Emily DesJarlais inked her name on a national
letter of intent to continue her playing career with the Lady
Braves.
DesJarlais, a native of Anchorage, Alaska, comes to Pembroke
following a phenomenal athletic and academic prep career at Service
High School in which she was an all-conference player while also
maintaining a 3.6 grade point average.
“We are very excited to have Emily join our program,”
Andersson said. “She is strong, athletic and very quick. She
is also very good on the ball and has great vision for the game. I
look for her to log quite a few minutes as a freshman and feel
confident she will be a very important part of the future of this
program.”
DesJarlais, a 4-sport athlete for the Cougars, lettered in
basketball, track & field and flag football for Service as
well, but excelled on the soccer field where she collected first
team offensive and defensive accolades, as well as team defensive
player of the year honors. Having played in every game last season
for SHS, DesJarlais helped lead the Cougars to an 11-4-4 mark, as
well as a runner-up finish in the region championships.
She also helped lead the Anchorage Youth Soccer Club (AYSC) to a
second place finish in the state tournament.
A member of the honor roll at SHS, DesJarlais is also a member of
the honor society Partners Club, HOSA Club and student government.
She currently ranks 25th among her 420-member senior class.
The daughter of May and Eugene DesJarlais has two younger siblings
– sister, Yvonne, and brother, Eugene. She is expecting to
major in athletic training at UNCP.
