UNCP’s Moore Captures Title at Hargett Memorial Tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Pembroke junior Meghan Moore won her fourth career tournament and second of the season on Tuesday at the Ralph Hargett Memorial Tournament in Charlotte.  Moore shot rounds of 74 and 76 to take the crown, finishing one stroke ahead of Barry’s Daniela Murray.  In the team race, Columbus State finished second in the 17-team field while Flagler was sixth, Armstrong tied for seventh and UNCP 12th.

The medalist honor was the second of the month for Moore (76-76/152) who also took home title honors at the Lady Pirate Invitational, March 5-6, in Pooler, Ga. Shauna Walor (81-80/161) shaved one stroke off of her total in Monday's opening round to finish in 20th place, while Kelly Sumner (87-89/176) and Jenn Crow (94-85/179) finished in a tie for 67th and a tie for 73rd, respectively. Dana Watkins did not compete in either round at the event.

The Lady Braves (338-330/668) were one of just four squads among the 17-team field to improve on their first round score, as the Lady Braves jumped one spot in the team standings to finish in a tie for 12th on the team leaderboard.

The Columbus State women's golf team registered a round two score of 320 and jumped a spot on the leader board to finish in second place with a 639. Barry University won the event posting a two round score of 625 and was the only school to shoot under 320 in both rounds.  CSU, Queens University of Charlotte (640), Tusculum (643) and Carson-Newman (648) rounded out the top five.

Kimesha Anthony led the Lady Cougars firing a three-over 75 on the final round.  She finished tied for third with a 10-over 154. Nikki Crowley recorded a nine-over par 81 on the afternoon finishing tied for 18th with a 16-over 160. Jennifer Brueshaber and Heather Altiser both shot 82's in round two and were one shot apart on the final board as Brueshaber (T21st) finished with a 162 while Altiser (26th) carded a 163. Kristin Galek had CSU's drop score for the round as she registered an 84 and finished with a 170 for the tournament.

Flagler finished six strokes behind Carson-Newman and three strokes ahead of Armstrong for sixth. Elin Karlsson was part of a four-way tie for third place coming in to the day, but shot an 86 to finish the tournament with an 18-over 162 and finished in a tie for 21st place. Lauren Benetti tied for 29th place with a 21-over 165. Nicole Keyser and Leslie Choucard tied for 35th place. Both finished with a 22-over 166. Marie Santacroce finished with a 27-over 151 and tied for 56th place.

Armstrong finished in a tie for seventh with Florida Tech at 657. Senior Kim Knox carded a four-over-par 76 to pace the Pirates, finishing tied for third individually with a 154 total. Sophomore Jenna Birch shot a 78 on Tuesday to finish tied for 14th individually with a 159 total, while junior Kelly Pearce shot an 84 to finish tied for 48th with a 169 total. Senior Victoria Bennett shot a 93 to finish in 72nd place with a 178 total. Sophomore Kristen Sammarco, who shot a 77 in the second round, was disqualified for not signing her scorecard.
