UNC Pembroke Women Soar at Pirate Intercollegiate

Meghan Moore carded a two-round total of 153 to capture her third career tournament title and lead ninth-ranked UNCP to its fifth tournament championship of the season on Tuesday afternoon at the Armstrong Pirate Women's Invitational in Pooler, Ga.

Moore captured the individual title with a second-round 77 to finish with a nine-over-par 153 total, three strokes better than Armstrong's Jenna Birch, who shot a two-over-par 74 for the tournament's best single round to finish with a 156 total. Dana Watkins logged a top-10 finish as well after registering a 158 (77-81) en route to finishing in a tie for third. Kelly Sumner (82-80/162) booked an 11th place finish, while Shauna Walor (83-80/163) and Lizzie Bundy (94-88/182) concluded the tournament tied for 12th and tied for 62nd, respectively.

The Braves shot a second straight round of 318 to finish the tournament with a 636 total, holding off No. 23 Central Oklahoma, who shot the best round of the tournament with a second-day 316 to finish with a 646 total. The host Pirates and Lander tied for third with 653 totals, while No. 19 Flagler rounded out the top five schools with a 655 total.

Moore was three strokes better than Armstrong sophomore Jenna Birch, who shot a two-over-par 74 for the tournament's best single round to finish with a 156 total. Birch paced the Pirates' finish with her runner-up finish, while junior Kelly Pearce carded a second-round 82 to finish tied for 21st individually with a 166 total. Senior Kim Knox carded an 81 on Tuesday to finish tied for 26th individually with a 167 total while senior Victoria Bennett shot an 89 to finish tied for 51st individually with a 179 total.

Lander’s Ashley Shinn tied for third overall in the 85-woman field with a 14-over-par 158 (77-81). Marianna Martins tied for seventh at 161 (85-76), Dea Mahendra finished 20th with 165 (82-83), Valentina Bueno tied for 32nd with 169 (86-83), and Rachel Uremovich tied for 39th with 172 (87-85).

Marie Santacroce led the Flagler contingent with a 19-over 163 and finished in a tie for 12th place. Lauren Benetti carded a 20-over 164 and finished in a tie for 15th place. Nicole Keyser and Marissa Marinan, were tied yesterday and remained so after two rounds each with a 23-over 167 and finished 26th. Elin Karlsson finished in a tie for 32nd place with a 25-over 169 and.

Columbus State finished seventh in the field with rounds of 330 and 339.  Nikki Crowley led the Cougars with an 80-81=161 and a tie for seventh place.  North Georgia was 11th with a 695.  Catalina Olarte shot 85-75 to finish in sixth.
