AASU, UNCP Womens Golf Teams Earn Second-Place Finishes
The Armstrong Atlantic State women’s golf team set a
program record with their second-place finish at the SCAD Spring
Invitational while UNC Pembroke also finished second at the Ralph
Hargett Invitational as both tournaments concluded on Tuesday.
Flagler turned in a fifth-place at the Barry Buccaneer Invitational
while Montevallo finished seventh at the SCAD.
Armstrong Atlantic State carded a program-best 312 in the second
round of the SCAD to finish second in the 14-team field with a 638
total, just six strokes behind tournament champion USC Beaufort
(632). The two-round total and finish are the best for a program
that began in 2005-06.
Sophomore Victoria Bennett shot a second consecutive round of 77
to finish tied for fourth individually with a 154 total, also a
career-best finish. She was just one stroke from medalist honors,
won by SCAD's Nikki Stewart in a three-way individual playoff.
Sophomore Kim Knox carded an 80 to finish tied for 11th place with
a 159 total, while junior Carrie George fired a 78 on Tuesday to
finish tied for 15th with a 162 total. Freshman Kelly Pearce
notched a 77 and finished tied for 19th with a 163 total, while
Sarah Johns rounded out the Lady Pirates' scoring with an 84, tying
for 38th place with a 170 total.
UNCP placed four golfers in the top 12 and shot a 329 in the final
round to place second at the 10th Annual J. Ralph Hargett Memorial
Intercollegiate Women’s Golf tournament at the par 72,
5,673-yard Olde Sycamore Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Christina Crovetti carded a second round 85 to finish in a tie for
sixth and lead a quintet of UNCP student-athletes. Shauna Walor
shot 82 on both days to finish tied for ninth with a two-day total
of 164, with Jennifer Crow sharing the position with rounds of 79
and 85. Katja Dammann improved her day one total (88) by 11 strokes
to finish tied for 12th with a two-day 165, while Alexa Mooney
(88-96/184) concluded the event tied for 46th.
The Flagler College women’s golf team shaved 10 strokes off
its first round total and tallied 656 strokes to finish in fifth
place at the weather shortened 36-hole, eight-team second annual
Buccaneer Invitational Tuesday at Shula’s Golf Course (par
72, 6254 yards).
Kaitlyn Edwards finished a team-best 12-over 156 to tie for eighth
place. She shot a 78 in the first round and the same 78 today. Elin
Karlsson finished with a 14-over 158 to tie for 10th place. Laura
Martellino finished in 28th place after carding a 25-over 169.
Kristie Feltner and.Marissa Marinan finished 33rd and 34th,
respectively. Feltner shot a 174 and Marinan finished with a
175.
Montevallo’s Emily Gibson finished one stroke behind Bennett
at the SCAD with rounds of 77-78 for a 158, in fifth place
overall. Montevallo shot a 680 in the two-round event,
finishing seventh in the 15-team field, one stroke ahead of Thomas.
