PBC Releases Women's Basketball Tournament Bracket
AUGUSTA, GA – The end of the 2010 basketball regular
season was filled with dramatic moments and when the dust cleared,
eight men’s and eight women’s teams remain alive as the
conference office released the 2010 Tournament brackets on Saturday
night.
On the women’s side, one of the main questions to be
answered was who was the top seed in the east. 10th-ranked Lander
answered that question with a 63-56 win at Augusta State, finishing
their remarkable regular season with a 17-1 conference mark and the
top seed in the east. Shannon McKever posted her 13th double-double
of the year with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Lander’s win leaves Francis Marion as the #2 seed in the
east. FMU toppled Armstrong Atlantic State 104-81 on Saturday in
Savannah behind 22 points from Shannon Singleton-Bates, who hit
nine of 12 from the floor, and 19 points, four rebounds from
Courtney Mealing. FMU, ranked #18 in the nation, will host east #3
seed USC Aiken on Tuesday at 7:00. USCA locked up the third seed a
week ago and concluded their regular season on Wednesday.
Lander will face the #4 seed in the east, UNC Pembroke. UNCP took
the seed with their 73-48 win over Flagler. JaToya Kemp had 19
points and 12 boards for the Lady Braves while Talena Faison added
16 points and five rebounds.
In the west division, GCSU is the #1 seed, something they knew
before Saturday’s 72-68 overtime win at North Georgia.
Antoinette Reames scored 23 points, six in the overtime period,
with 13 rebounds while Chimere Jordan added 22 points and 11
boards.
Clayton State is the #2 in the west with Columbus State at #3. The
two teams ended the season one game apart. CSU had the chance to
pull into a tie with the 22nd-ranked Lakers and did their part with
a 63-53 win at Montevallo. Clayton State held a tiebreak edge over
Columbus State, and the two will now meet in Morrow on Tuesday
night at 7:00.
Georgia Southwestern is the #4 seed in the west after winning a
tiebreak over Montevallo. Both GSW and UM fell on Saturday, but GSW
will make their first-ever PBC Tournament appearance thanks to a
win earlier this season over top-seeded GCSU.
