Nov 24, 2009 UNCP Adds Howell To Recruiting Class PEMBROKE – UNCP women’s basketball coach John
Haskins has announced the signing of Alpharetta, Georgia native
Theresa “TJ” Howell to a national letter of intent for
the 2010-11 academic year, as the notable 6-1 center declared her
intentions to continue her player career with the Lady Braves
squad.
“We are very excited that TJ has decided to join our
program,” said Haskins. “She is an outstanding young
lady who is also an excellent student.
“TJ plays extremely hard, runs the floor very well, can
rebound, defend, and block shots. She is rapidly improving her
offensive skills and her best basketball is ahead of her. TJ is an
excellent addition to our program.”
Howell, a member of the Atlanta Cagers under coach Ralph Smith, led
her team to a top-5 finish at the 2009 Showtime National
Championships and was recognized as the team’s leading shot
blocker and rebounder this past year. Howell averaged 9.0 points,
10.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 assists with the Cagers.
At South Forsyth High School under coach Keith Gravitt, Howell
averaged 5.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 assists
during her junior year with the War Eagles and also participated
with her team in the Turkey Shootout Thanksgiving Tournament where
the team took home second place honors.
The daughter of Mitch and Shirley Howell, TJ has one brother, Glenn
who plays lacrosse at Greensboro College. Howell, a member of HOSA
and the French National Honors Society currently holds a 3.77
grade-point-average and plans on majoring in nursing at UNCP.
