Nov 20, 2009 GCSU Womens Basketball Inks Four In Early Period MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State
University women’s basketball program and head coach John
Carrick announced the signing of four players for the 2010-11
season. Abby Slocumb, Huguetta Yauga, Jasmain Carey and Krysta
Lewis will join the Bobcat team next year.
Slocumb is a four-year starter at North Gwinnett High School and
has started 81 straight games heading into her senior year. As a
junior, she averaged 10 points and eight rebounds a game. Slocumb
was North Gwinnett’s Best Defensive Player in the 2008-09
season and also made the Third Team All-Region 7AAAAA that year.
She played AAU for Georgia Elite Girls Basketball that has won
seven straight state AAU titles and was runner-up in the 2009
nationals.
Yauga transfers from Santa Fe Junior College and hails from
Cameroon, Africa. “She is a hardnosed player that knows only
one speed, full speed,” said Carrick. “Yauga will lead
the team in effort.”
Lewis, a 6-foot-2 post player and three year starter from Etowah
High School, played on the Georgia Hoopstars AAU Elite team as
sophomore and junior. Lewis averaged 7.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and
2.2 blocks a game last season. She was selected to the Peach State
Fab-5 invitational camp the past two seasons. As a junior, she was
awarded Player of the Week by the Cherokee Tribune.
Carey joins the Bobcats from Lakeview Ft.-Oglethorpe High School.
She is third all-time at her high school in single-game rebounds
with 22, which she has done three times and also had three-20
rebound games during the state playoffs last season. Carey was
First Team All-State Georgia Athletics Coaches Association (GACA)
and was selected to the Chattanooga Times Best of Preps in 2008 and
2009. She has also been on the 7AAAA all-region team, the 6AAA
all-region team and a three-time Dream Team selection.
The current Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Nov. 20 in the
Nova Southeastern/Marriott Tipoff Classic against Barry University
at 5:30 p.m. in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
