AASU Names Will Condon Head Volleyball Coach

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University athletic department announced the hiring of Will Condon to take over as the head coach of the highly successful Pirate volleyball program. Condon replaces Alan Segal, who left the school to take an assistant coaching position at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Condon joins the Pirates from USC Aiken, where he served as the Pacers' head volleyball coach for the past eight seasons, compiling a 161-100 record as the winningest coach in that school's history. The Peach Belt Conference’s Coach of the Year in 2006, the Pacers under Condon collected back-to-back Peach Belt regular season and tournament titles in 2006 and 2007, advancing to the NCAA Championships in both seasons.

"For eight years I have always been impressed with Armstrong Atlantic's Athletic Department as a whole," Condon said. "I am excited for this opportunity to become a part of the AASU family. It's now time to work hard, and help continue that tradition that Coach Segal built during his nine years at AASU."

A 1996 graduate of Clemson, Condon previously served as an assistant coach at Emporia State, where he earned his MBA in 1999. While at USC Aiken, Condon coached 13 All-PBC players and also coached CoSIDA Academic All-American Mandy Gerolstein, the 2007 PBC Player of the Year.

"We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to add a coach of Will Condon's caliber to the Armstrong Atlantic State staff," Athletic Director Dr. Eddie Aenchbacher said. "He has a proven record of success not only at the Peach Belt level but at the regional and national level as well, which makes him an excellent fit for a program that made its mark on the same level under coach Segal."

Condon inherits an AASU squad that struggled in 2007, going 16-20 in its first losing season since 1998, but featured only three seniors and six underclassmen. Among his key returnees for 2008 will be senior 2007 All-PBC rightside hitter Rindy Vidovich and junior 2008 All-PBC outside hitter Gwen Clarke.
