Dec 4, 2007 UNC Pembroke Signs Mazur to NLI PEMBROKE, N.C. – UNCP head volleyball coach Jeff
Billington has announced the signing of Weddington High School
standout Erica Mazur to a national letter of intent for the 2008
season as the Waxhaw native declared her intentions to play for the
Braves.
Mazur, a 5-10 outside hitter, was a three-sport star for the
Warriors competing in soccer and track & field as well as
volleyball. During her senior year she earned all-conference honors
while also being named her team’s MVP. A team captain in
2007, WHS reached the North Carolina 4A regional semifinals while
going 22-5 on the season.
That season saw Mazur register 476 digs, 280 kills, 64 service aces
and 42 blocks. For her efforts she was a Senior all-star tournament
selection.
In 2006 she earned all-conference and All Union County honors while
also winning the coach’s award. WHS went 16-9 her junior
season reaching the regional quarterfinals for head coach Carrie
Powell. That season Mazur tallied 259 kills, 217 digs and 51
service aces.
She also reached the 4A regional quarterfinals in her sophomore
season earning the most improved award. She plays her club ball
with the Union Volleyball Club and coaches Matt Anderson and Jim
Zorn.
A three-time letterwinner in volleyball, Mazur also earned two
letters for soccer and for track & field. In soccer she earned
all-conference and all-county honors her final two seasons while
also being named the Charlotte Observer’s all-region team her
senior year.
The daughter of Richard and Phyllis Mazur, Erica plans on majoring
in education upon her arrival at UNCP. She has one brother,
Benjamin (21), and a twin sister, Sarah (18). Benjamin currently
attends North Carolina State and Sarah will be attending UNC
Charlotte in the fall.
