Galloway, Dickie and Turner Earn Softball Weekly Accolades

Player of the Week

Whitney Galloway, Armstrong
Sr. • 1b • Rossville, Ga.

Galloway hit .500, driving in nine runs for the No. 6-ranked Pirates as Armstrong won all four Peach Belt games this week.  She began the week by going 4-for-7 with a double and seven RBIs in the Pirates' sweep at USC Aiken on Friday , then went 3-for-5 with an RBI in an 11-4 win in game one of Sunday's doubleheader at Augusta State.   She drove in at least one run in every game and scored four times.  She is now tied for the PBC lead in RBIs with her teammate, Baillie Temples, after her performance this week.  Is also sixth in the Peach Belt in doubles.

Pitcher of the Week

Melissa Dickie, North Georgia
Fr. • RHP • Buford, Ga.

Dickie dominated her PBC competition this past week, going a perfect 5-0 while boosting her perfect record to 16-0 for her freshman season. She allowed just one earned run in six appearances, finishing the week with a 0.21 ERA. She threw two complete game shutouts, while striking out 24 batters. She also picked up a save along the way. Dickie has thrived in the role of throwing behind Jessica Coan, and has seen more innings to due the absence of Coan. Dickie ranks third in the conference with her low ERA and his tied for fifth in the league with wins.

Freshman of the Week

Taylor Turner, Columbus State
Fr. • RHP • Savannah, Ga.

Turner was nearly unhittable for Columbus State as she went 2-0 in three appearances including a crucial victory over Francis Marion to cap off the week. Turner began the week by throwing her first career no-hitter versus West Georgia as two walks kept her from tossing a perfect game. In a must-win game, she limited FMU to one run on six hits in the complete game win. A pair of base hits in the seventh brought the potential game-winning run to the plate but Turner came up clutch and registered her only strikeout of the game to end the contest. She also tossed three shutout innings in relief versus UNC Pembroke. and hit .250 in 16 at-bats.
