Jones, Russell and Turner Named Softball Players of the Week

Player of the Week

Lindsey Jones, USC Aiken
Jr. • IF • North Augusta, SC

Jones hit .692 in four games for the Pacers last week, driving in three and scoring five times.  The junior went 4-for-7 in a doubleheader at St. Andrews, then wnet 5-for-6, including a 4-for-4 outing, in a sweep at Georgia College.  She collected a double and drove in a run in the second game against GC and had two more RBIs in the second game with St. Andrews.  The Pacer won all four games as Jones did not strike out and was perfect in the infield in 11 chances.  She had an on-base percentage of .733 and slugged .769 in the four games.

Pitcher of the Week

Mollie Russell, Columbus State
Jr. • RHP • Decatur, Ala.

Russell allowed only two earned runs in 26.2 innings pitched last week as she made five appearances, four starts, and went 3-1.  She tossed an eight-inning complete-game two-hit shutout against Lander, then held North Georgia to five hits and no runs while striking out 13 in a 1-0 win.  The two runs she allowed were in the second game to NGCSU as she struck out three.  In all, the junior had 31 strikeouts with only three walks allowed and a 0.52 ERA.  Had a streak of 26 consecutive scoreless innings.  Is second in the PBC in ERA, third in strikeouts and fifth in wins.

Freshman of the Week

Taylor Turner, Columbus State
Fr. • UT • Savannah, Ga.

Turner went 2-0 as a pitcher and hit .364 as the Cougars went 5-1.  In the circle, she was 2-0 with three earned runs allowed in 13.1 innings.  She pitched five innings in a win over Young Harris, then went the distance to beat Lander 3-1, allowing one earned run.  At the plate the freshman went 2-for3 with a run scored against Lander and was also 2-for-3 with a double against North Georgia.  She also drew three walks and had a .500 on-base percentage.  Turner is currently ranked 8th in the PBC in batting average and ninth in on-base percentage.  She is also ninth in ERA.
