Lander's Duncan Resigns to Take Assistant Coach Job at NCAA Division I Samford
GREENWOOD ---Brandon Duncan, Lander head softball coach, has resigned his position and has accepted the assistant coach position at NCAA Division I Samford University.
Duncan, a University of Alabama graduate, served as a student assistant coach at his alma mater and as an assistant coach at the University of Virginia and Georgia Tech prior to coming to Lander.
Samford is located in Birmingham, Ala., and is a member of the Southern Conference. At Samford, Duncan joins head coach Mandy Burford, who was a player at the University of Alabama when Duncan coached there.
In accepting Duncan's resignation, Lander athletic director Jeff May commented that Brandon decided to return to Division I softball as a pitching coach.
"While we were surprised and the timing in not ideal," said May, "we respect Brandon's decision, wish him much success, and thank him for his work at Lander for the past four years.
"During the next few days, Brandon will be assisting me to insure a smooth transition for our softball program as we begin the process of hiring a new coach."
