Nov 24, 2009 CSU Adds Local Prep Standout During Early Period Columbus, Ga. -- Columbus State softball coach Brad Huskisson
has announced the signing of Northside High School catcher Casey
Googe. The signing took place as part of the NCAA Early Signing
Period. Googe will join her brother, Tyler, who signed with the CSU
baseball program during the early period, as well.
This fall, Googe led coach Chera Riles’ Northside Patriot
team all the way to the AAA State Championship game for the first
time in school history. On the season, Casey batted .352 with 6
doubles and three homers and had a whopping .457 slugging
percentage. She also added eight stolen bases.
Googe has been an All Bi-City selection in each of her four high
school seasons and was chosen in the Georgia Elite 80 as a junior
and a senior. She is a three-time All-State selection and will
likely earn a fourth straight honor when the 2009 team is released.
Huskisson believes Casey to be a true 5 tool athlete; she can hit
for power, hit for average, run, throw, and play just about any
position on the field. "Casey is another player that fits the mold
of what we are looking for in our players at CSU. She is an
excellent student, a gifted athlete, and an all around great
person, not to mention she has the strongest arm I have ever seen
on a softball player" says Huskisson.
Googe joins fellow freshman signee Erin Tyson, a left-handed
pitcher out of Central High School in Phenix City, as the only two
early signees for Huskisson's program in 2009.
