Jun 17, 2009 CSU Removes 'Interim' Tag; Names Huskisson Head Softball Coach Columbus, GA - Columbus State University Athletic Director Jay
Sparks removed the interim tag from Brad Huskisson's title on
Thursday, calling him "the person who I want to be in charge of the
CSU softball program."
"I want to think President Dr. Tim Mescon and Coach Sparks for
given me this opportunity. I'm honored and privileged to be
selected as the next head softball coach at CSU. My family and I
have fallen in love with CSU and the Columbus community," said
Huskisson.
Huskisson was named acting head coach midway through the 2008
season and helped guide CSU to a 12-6 mark and a fourth place
finish at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. In 2009, CSU
finished with a 30-31 record. Huskisson has a career record of
195-143 counting his five years as head softball coach at Brescia
University (NAIA).
"The PBC is an amazing softball conference and I'm excited about
the opportunity to be able to compete in one of the best leagues in
the country," added Huskisson.
Sparks added, "I think Brad has earned the right to be our head
softball coach. He has done everything right on and off the field.
I have total confidence in him and he will get our program back to
the level we all will be proud of."
Huskisson started his college coaching career as an assisant with
the women's basketball team at Brescia under Marty Rowe, now Head
Women's Basketball Coach at Lee University. "Brad is one of my
favorite people to ever work with. Not only is he a terrific coach
and recruiter, but he's just a good person. I've watched him grow
from a young assistant coach into a tremedous leader and I want to
congratulate Columbus State on a great hire for their women's
softball program," said Rowe.
In his five years at Brescia, Huskisson went 153-106 with three
regular season championships, two region championships, and two
NAIA World Series appearances. He was conference Coach of the Year
four times and was NAIA Region XII Coach of the Year in 2003 &
2004.
Huskisson returns 11 players from the 2009 squad and has signed a
total of 10 players to scholarships for the 2010 season.
