CSU Removes 'Interim' Tag; Names Huskisson Head Softball Coach

Columbus, GA - Columbus State University Athletic Director Jay Sparks removed the interim tag from Brad Huskisson's title on Thursday, calling him "the person who I want to be in charge of the CSU softball program."

"I want to think President Dr. Tim Mescon and Coach Sparks for given me this opportunity. I'm honored and privileged to be selected as the next head softball coach at CSU. My family and I have fallen in love with CSU and the Columbus community," said Huskisson.

Huskisson was named acting head coach midway through the 2008 season and helped guide CSU to a 12-6 mark and a fourth place finish at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. In 2009, CSU finished with a 30-31 record. Huskisson has a career record of 195-143 counting his five years as head softball coach at Brescia University (NAIA).

"The PBC is an amazing softball conference and I'm excited about the opportunity to be able to compete in one of the best leagues in the country," added Huskisson.

Sparks added, "I think Brad has earned the right to be our head softball coach. He has done everything right on and off the field. I have total confidence in him and he will get our program back to the level we all will be proud of."

Huskisson started his college coaching career as an assisant with the women's basketball team at Brescia under Marty Rowe, now Head Women's Basketball Coach at Lee University. "Brad is one of my favorite people to ever work with. Not only is he a terrific coach and recruiter, but he's just a good person. I've watched him grow from a young assistant coach into a tremedous leader and I want to congratulate Columbus State on a great hire for their women's softball program," said Rowe.

In his five years at Brescia, Huskisson went 153-106 with three regular season championships, two region championships, and two NAIA World Series appearances. He was conference Coach of the Year four times and was NAIA Region XII Coach of the Year in 2003 & 2004.

Huskisson returns 11 players from the 2009 squad and has signed a total of 10 players to scholarships for the 2010 season.
