Jaguars Defend Home Turf

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta State cross country teams competed Saturday in the annual Jaguar Invitational at Blanchard Wood Park in Evans, Ga.

The ASU men pulled out the win as the fourth and fifth runners edged Georgia State's final man to the finish in the 8K event. They placed three runners in the top five, and five in the top 12.

Sophomore Dustin Ross paced the Jaguars with a time of 25:53.25, good for second place; he was tailed by Robert Blackwelder in third, and Jaiden Brandt in fourth. Matthew Johnson (10th) and Adam Aldridge (12th) rounded out the scoring for ASU.

Valent Poncelet won with a time of 25:34.37 for Georgia State, which finished six points behind ASU.

Braves Finish Seventh At Walt Disney Classic

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The UNCP men's cross country team was led by junior Pardon Ndhlovu who finish third in the race with a time of 25:23.67 in the 8K at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic on Saturday morning.

Ndhlovu was the first NCAA Division II athlete to finish, and was 13 seconds behind the first place finisher from Florida A&M. Sophomore Chris Schroll finished in the top-10 at eighth and second for the Braves with a time of 25:59.05, while senior Kevin Clancy was the third finisher for the Black and Gold with a time of 27:39.10.

Zachary Bayless was the fourth finisher for UNCP and 54th overall with a time of 27:45.62, while freshman Andrew Nguyen rounded out the top five finishers for the Black and Gold with a time of 28:39.78 to post a new personal best after dropping more than 30 seconds.

Jeremy Judd (28:54.56) and Cedric Wilson (30:18.10) rounded out the runners for the Braves. The team totaled 200 points to place seventh out of 24 teams.

The Braves will head to the Peach Belt Conference Championships on October 22 at Pacer Path in Aiken, S.C. The men's 8K race is set to begin at 10:45 a.m.

CSU Cross Country Perfoms Well in Oxford

Oxford, Al. – The Columbus State University men's and women's cross country teams trekked to Alabama today for the Jacksonville State University Foothills Invitational.

CSU graduate assistant David Marley ran unattached and won the men's 8k race. Marley finished the race in 26:07.45.

The Cougar men finished second at the meet, trailing only meet-winner, Emory University, by eight total points.

Cougar sophomore Ian Edwards continued his successful 2011 campaign with a second place finish behind Marley. Edwards lost the meet by less than the four-tenths of second to Marley finishing the 8k with a time of 26:07.78.

Rounding out the racers on the men's side for CSU, junior Andy Henderson finished 11th (26:54.35), junior Brandon Skiles finished 28th (27:32.54), freshman Nathan Reeves finished 36th (27:49.01), senior Nathan Prickett finished 51st (28:39.05) and freshman Silas Rugut finished 58th (28:49.28) at the meet.

Lambert finishes 25th and Flagler 12th at Disney Classic
 
LAKE BUENA VISTA − The Flagler College men’s cross country team finished 12th  with 307 points at the 24-school, 214-man 16th annual Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic Saturday  morning at the Wide World of Sports Complex.

NCAA Division I member Drake University won the team event with 31 points. The Bulldogs had four runners finish in the top 10. Fellow Division I member Florida Gulf Coast University finished a distant second with 120 points.

Shuaib Winters of Florida A&M University won the individual meet with a time of 25:10.18 over the 8K course. He edged out Drake’s Brogan Austin who crossed the line at 25:13.86. UNC Pembroke’s Pardon Ndhlovu placed third with a time of 25:23.67.
 
Mike Lambert led the Flagler runners with a season-best time of 26:53.80. Cory Mundy placed 45th with a season-best time of 27:32.96. Alex Bonus also had a season-best time, 27:47.55, and finished in 57th place. Justin Talavera continued with Saints harriers posting top times so far this season after crossing the line at 28:33.77 and finishing in 90th place. Rounding out the point scorers for Flagler was Matt Goodman at 29:07.50, a season-best time, and he finished in 112th place.

Zach Shave and Derek Casciano finished just behind Goodman. Shave posted a time of 29:15.77 while Casciano recorded a time of 29:23.01. They finished in 115th and119th places, respectively. He was followed by Chad Jones who posted a time of 29:27.80 and placed 123rd. Richard Johnston rounded out the Flagler runners with a time of 29:44.17

Flagler will now prepare for the Peach Belt Conference Championships which will be held Oct. 22 at Aiken S.C.

GC Men’s Harriers Take third at Augusta
 
AUGUSTA, Ga. – With senior Daniel Horseman (Cohutta, Ga.) leading the way in fifth, the Georgia College men’s cross country team took third at this Saturday’s ASU Jaguar Invitational, hosted by Augusta State University.
 
Horseman was fifth among the 44 runners in the 8K race, crossing the line in 26:22, good for third in school history. Horseman now owns the top three slots in the school recordbooks for the 8K distance.
 
Classmate Tyler Mattix (Snellville, Ga.) came two slots later in seventh, taking the course in 26:30, just two seconds off his personal best. Mattix’s number still ranks in the school top-10 at sixth.
 
Senior Colin Conroy (Dacula, Ga.) narrowly missed a top-10 finish in 11th, finishing in 27:23. Seniors Rob Manning (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Travis Knight (Oxford, Ga.) were 17th and 18th, respectively with Manning finishing in 27:49 and Knight at 27:53, both season-bests.
 
The Bobcats finished with 58 points in the five-team race. Host ASU won the team race with 31 points, narrowly edging Division I Georgia State University by six. Georgia State’s Valence Poncelet won the race with a 25:34, bettering the competition by 19 seconds.

Pirate Cross Country Runs 4th At USCB Sand Shark Invitational

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University men's cross country team finished fourth at the USC Beaufort Sand Shark Invitational on Saturday morning, held at Sgt. Jasper Park in Hardeeville, S.C.

The Pirates collected 140 points, finishing behind team champion SCAD (29), host USC Beaufort (31) and Southern Wesleyan (83), with Coastal Georgia and Morris also fielding runners, but not enough to count a team score.

Junior Parker Gordon led the Pirates with a season-best time of 29:02 over the 8k course, finishing 19th individually. Freshman Brandon Lico ran a time of 31:25, finishing 29th individually, while sophomore Ryan Kozusko finished in a time of 32:05, finishing 31st.

Sophomore Josiah Siegel ran a time of 32:14 to finish in 33rd place and sophomore Scott Lawson finished 34th in a time of 33:05.

The Pirates return to action on Saturday, October 15, running at the Oglethorpe Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
