Rumenov, Cigui Named Tennis Players of the Week

Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Georgi Rumenov, Armstrong
Soph. • Barcelona, Spain

The top-ranked Rumenov went 3-0 in both singles and doubles as No. 1 Armstrong clinched the Peach Belt regular season title with three wins this week. He began the week with a 6-2, 6-0 win over No. 13-ranked Alex Caspari of Francis Marion, then beat No. 23 Olivier Simonet of Columbus State, 6-3, 6-0 and finished with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of No. 48 Peter Coulis of Flagler. Teamed with Mikk Irodja to go 3-0 in doubles. He is a perfect 17-0 in singles and went through the entire PBC schedule unbeaten in singles and doubles.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Paola Cigui, Columbus State
Soph. • Trieste, Italy

Cigui won three more matches last week to run her record to 21-0 on the season and maintain her status as the only undefeated #1 singles player.  She defeated #4 Barbora Krtickova of Armstrong 6-3, 6-3 to begin her week and followed that with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Florida Tech’s Kristina Huba.  She finished with a 6-0, 6-1 win over GSW’s Carly Cangelosi.  She is now 2-0 against top-10 players this season and has only dropped on set all spring.  In doubles, she partnered with Milica Tomic to go 2-1 with wins over #12 Huba and Huba of Florida Tech and GSW’s Cangelosi and Jones. Cigui is ranked #10 in the nation in singles.
