Lander's Verpeaux, Columbus State's Cigui Named Tennis Players of the Week
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Vincent Verpeaux, Lander
Soph. • Aix en Provence, France
Verpeaux was 2-0 on the week and improved to 14-0 on the year as
he beat 13th-ranked Jerome Leborgne of Georgia College 6-7, 7-5,
11-9 and Jose Martinez of 11th-ranked Flagler 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.
Those two wins, both at #1 singles, improve the sophomore to 6-0 in
singles and he becomes one of seven PBC players with 10 or more
matches who remain unbeaten on the year. In doubles, he partnered
with Adam Jonsson to go 1-1 on the week, falling to GC’s
14th-ranked team of Leborgne and Wadstein 9-8 before beatin the top
Flagler team of Martinez and Stolz 8-4.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Paola Cigui, Columbus State
Soph. • Trieste, Italy
Cigui remained perfect on the season as she defeated #9 Clayton
State’s Marie Cercelletti 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 and #16 Georgia
College’s Lisa Setyon-Onenzio 6-2, 6-1 at #1 singles this
week. The three-setter against Cercelletti was the first set
Cigui has dropped this season as she rallied to win the next
two. Ranked #46 in the nation, she is the only player in the
Peach Belt to be undefeated at #1 singles, having played all 16
matches in that spot. In doubles, she partnered with Madeline
Johnson to beat Clayton’s Budd and Dedaj 8-4 and paired with
Milica Tomic to beat GC’s Barksdale and Setyon-Ortenzio
8-6.
