NCAA Men's Tennis: Jags Oust USC Aiken in Regional Quarters

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Augusta State claimed two of three doubles matches Thursday afternoon en route to a 5-1 victory over USC Aiken in the opening round of the NCAA Southeast Regional at Blackmon Tennis Center.

With the win, the 18th-ranked Jaguars improved to 14-6 on the season and will advance to take on regional host and 10th-ranked Columbus State (16-4) on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. The No. 26 Pacers closed their season with an 11-12 overall record.

ASU’s Jenner Stevenson and Jan Labas combined for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles while Rafael Milhati and Wu Ferraz posted an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.

ASU all-conference performer Henrique Boturao booked a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles and fellow all-PBC honoree Bernardo Fernandes led 6-4, 1-0 when the Pacers’ Juan Xavier Ponce retired at No. 2 singles. ASU senior Wu Ferrax tallied the Jags’ other singles victory at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over USCA’s Juan Guglielmeti.

Under head coach Michael McGrath, ASU is making its seventh postseason appearance in the last 11 seasons.
