Six PBC Men's Tennis Teams Named to NCAA Field

INDIANAPOLIS, IND -- Six Peach Belt Conference men’s tennis teams learned late Wednesday that they will be among the 60 competing for the 2008 National Championship as the NCAA released the tournament field. Armstrong Atlantic State and Lander will be two of the 16 regional hosts for the first and second rounds of the tournament. GCSU and Columbus State will play at Armstrong Atlantic State while Augusta State and Francis Marion will travel to Lander.

Armstrong Atlantic State enters the NCAA Tournament as the #1-ranked team in the nation with a perfect 25-0 record. The Pirates will be looking for their first-ever men’s tennis national championship and will begin that quest by taking on CIAA automatic bid winner Shaw in their first match in Savannah. Columbus State and GCSU will play in the other match.

Lander is looking to return to its dynasty days that saw the Bearcats win eight straight national championships from 1993-2000. The Bearcats, 17-6 on the season, will begin their journey by meeting Augusta State in the first round. Francis Marion will take Anderson who won the automatic bid from Conference Carolinas.

The first and second rounds will take place on campus either May 8-9 or 9-10. The winners at each of the 16 regionals will come together in Houston, Texas, for the national finals May 14-17 at Memorial Park. Game times and specific dates for first-round matches will be announced in the coming days.
