PBC Announces Men's Tennis Preseason All-Conference Team

AUGUSTA, GA -- The Peach Belt Conference has released its first-ever men’s tennis Preseason All-Conference team. The seven players represent five of the nine men’s tennis-playing institutions in the Peach Belt including two each from Armstrong Atlantic State and USC Aiken. GCSU, FMU and Lander also had players on the team. The team was originally to honor six players, but a tie in the final spot pushed the number to seven.

Armstrong Atlantic State’s Robert Jendelund was named PBC All-Conference in doubles play in 2007. A senior from Huddinge, Sweden, he won the ITA Mid-Atlantic regional singles championship last fall and is ranked 8th in the nation in singles and 12th in doubles. Jendelund’s teammate Paul Bishop is also on the preseason team. A junior from Whitwell, England, Bishop was 23-15 in singles play in 2007 and was ranked 15th in the nation in singles following the fall 2007 season.

USC Aiken’s Dagoberto Darezzo was named PBC All-Conference last year in singles after winning a school-record 15 matches at the #1 singles spot, including a 6-3 mark in conference play. A junior from San Carlos, Brazil, Darezzo is ranked 19th in the nation in singles and second nationally in doubles. Joining Darezzo on the preseason team is teammate Bruno Seves. A junior from Araraquara, Brazil, Seves won a school-record 18 matches at #2 singles in 2007, including a 3-1 mark against nationally-ranked opponents and 7-2 in the conference. He is ranked 21st nationally in doubles.

GCSU’s Erick Siqueira was named PBC All-Conference in 2007 after finishing the season 18-5 in singles including a 6-3 mark in the PBC. A junior from Sao Paulo, Brazil,, Siqueira was a runner-up at the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate in the fall and is ranked 13th nationally in singles.

Franklyn Emmanuel reached the semifinals of the ITA Regional championships last fall for Francis Marion. A senior from Colombo, Sri Lanka, Emmanuel was 13-3 overall and 7-2 in the PBC in 2007, playing at both #1 and #3 singles. He is currently ranked 20th nationally in singles and 11th in doubles.

Lander’s Guilherme Fonseca is the final preseason All-Conference member. A senior from Campinas, Brazil, he had a 14-9 singles record in 2007. He is currently ranked 20th nationally in doubles.
