Flagler's Bergfeld, Toby Named Daktronics All-Americans
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Flagler College junior midfielder
Joseph Toby (Freetown, Sierra Leone) and senior midfielder Johan
Bergfeld (Akers Styckebruk, Sweden, Rekarnegymnasiet) were named to
the 2011 Daktronics NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer All-America
Teams, as released by officials this afternoon.
Toby becomes Flagler’s second first-team All-American, the
last was Tim Bartlett in 1984 when he was selected as an NAIA
All-American. Bergfeld was selected to the third-team.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world
leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for
virtually every sport at every level of competition.
Toby a first-team Daktronics all-Southeast Region and all-Peach
Belt selection, finished the season tied for the team-lead with 11
goals and tallied eight assists for a team-best 30 points. He
recorded one of Flagler’s two hat tricks this season and has
scored three equalizers.
Bergfeld was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year
and earned Daktronics first-team all-Southeast Region and
all-conference honors as well being selected to the Academic
All-District and Academic All-Conference teams. He started all 23
matches this season and scored six goals, with four being
game-winners, to go along with five assists for 17 points.
Flagler finished the season with a 17-3-3 overall record and
advanced to the elite eight of the NCAA Division II National
Tournament.
