PBC Names Toby, Rinzema and Cullip Men's Soccer Players of the Week

 

Player of the Week

Joseph Toby, Flagler
5-10 • Jr. • MF • Freetown, Sierra Leone

Toby scored half of his teams' goals in two games last week and added an assist.  He began with both goals in Flagler' 2-2 overtime tie with #13 Montevallo and then added a goal and an assist in a win over Wingate.  Against Montevallo, the junior took six shots, scoring a goal to tie the game just after halftime and another on a header to give Flagler a late lead.  He is now tied for seventh in the PBC in goals and is also fourth in assists and sixth in points.

Defensive Player of the Week

Mike Rinzema, Montevallo
6-1 • Jr. • D • Brampton, Ontario

Rinzema had key moments on offense and defense for the Falcons, scoring a goal against Flagler and shutting down Eckerd in a win.  He began with his first goal of the season in the 87th minute at Flagler.  He headed in a cross on a free kick that sent the game to overtime, where he helped the Falcons defense keep the Saints off the board.  He carried that effort on to Eckerd, holding the Tritons to two shots on goal.  Leads a defense that is third in the PBC with four goals allowed and tied for second with a 1.00 GAA.

Goalkeeper of the Week

Joe Cullip, UNC Pembroke
5-10 • Fr. • GK • Tonbridge, England

Cullip played 101 minutes in goal in two games for the Braves, allowing only one score and making seven saves.  He began with 56 minutes of shutout action against Mt. Olive, and followed that up with 45 minutes against Chowan in a win.  The freshman keeper has allowed only two goals in 282 minutes played this season for the 4-0 Braves and leads the league in goals allowed and GAA.
