Clayton State (9-7, 4-4) -- The
Clayton State Lakers concluded the regular season on a much-needed
winning note as they turned back USC Aiken 2-1 on Saturday. Earlier
in the week on Wednesday, Clayton State dropped a 3-2 decision at
home against Alabama-Huntsville... Senior midfielder Janny Rivera
accounted for both Laker goals against USC Aiken - a penalty kick
in the 49th minute and a free direct kick in the 75th minute...
Jonathan Ray and Ryan Pugh both scored for Clayton State against
Alabama-Huntsville, but the visiting Chargers spoiled the Lakers'
Senior Night... Laker junior forward Kenny Mena is tied for third
in the Peach Belt in both goals scored (eight) and points scored
(20), while senior forward Matty Phillips is tied for second in
assists with five... Clayton State head coach Pete Petersen is now
97-43-15 in his eighth season at the Laker helm... This is the 20th
season of men's soccer at Clayton State, and the Lakers' all-time
record is 202-147-29... Clayton State is seeded fifth in this
week's Peach Belt Conference Tournament and will play at North
Georgia on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

Flagler (12-3-2, 6-1-1) -- Flagler
played one match last week, at No. 21 (NAIA) Embry-Riddle
Aeronautical University. Neither team had much to gain with each
team going into conference tournaments. Will Frandsen and Eammon
Murphy led the way for Flagler with four shots taken. Camp Bissell
earned his seventh shutout of the season after picking up a
season-best nine saves. Flagler, the top seed in the PBC
Tournament, hosts No. 8 seed USC Aiken in a quarterfinal round
match at Saints Field Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. |

Francis Marion (4-12-1, 2-5-1) -- FMU dropped
its final two regular-season matches...After opening the year
1-9-0, the Patriots rallied to finish their season on a 3-3-1
run....Junior D Travis Bally scored his first goal of 2011 vs North
Georgia....Sophomore F Alex Blandin leads FMU in scoring with nine
goals and 1 assist, including 4 match-winners. He ranks second in
the PBC in goals and 47th nationally. For his short career, he has
14 scores (6 match-winners).....Freshman GK Nick Lucido leads the
PBC with 66 saves and is averaging 4.4 saves per match (58th
nationally) and has three shutouts....Freshman F Igor Souza has 2
goals and 2 assists....Senior D Adrian Williams has played every
minute this season....Senior MF Cameron Mabee leads FMU with three
assists....FMU is 18-12-1 in its last 31 PBC matches... FMU has
allowed only 32 scores in the first half during its past 53
matches....FMU’s 2011 roster includes 9 newcomers (5 of whom
are in the starting line-up)....Over the past eight seasons, 32 of
FMU’s last 75 losses have been by one goal....FMU faces
Montevallo in the PBC Tournament first round. FMU is 11-18-2
all-time in tournament play with a pair of championships (1999 and

Georgia Southwestern (3-11-2, 0-7-1)
-- The end of the 2011 season was a sour one for the
Hurricanes. The final week of the season only featured one game
against Montevallo. GSW hosted the Falcons for Saturday's finale,
but Montevallo crashed the "Senior Day" party. The Falcons scored
early (Phil Jackson in the 9th minute) and often as GSW would drop
the match 4-0 to Montevallo. Senior Shane McKay registered four
shot (two on goal) in the defeat. It was the final game for seniors
Dominic Davis, Shane McKay, Kevin Huet, Ethan Vick, Linley Laverdue
and Michael Morgan. |

Lander (8-6-2, 5-2-1) -- Lander in
its only game played last week, defeated UNC Pembroke, 1-0, in
double-overtime in the regular-season finale for both teams. Zach
Acree, who is third in the PBC in assists with five, scored the
golden goal. In other PBC statistics, Brett Jankouskas and Chris
Hobbs are tied for second in goals scored with nine, and are tied
for fifth in points scored with 19. Matthew Osmond is also tied for
second in assists with five. |

Montevallo (10-3-4, 5-1-2) -- The
Falcons had just one match last week as they defeated the
Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern 4-0 on the road. Four different
athletes scored for the Falcons while three more provided the
assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway ended the regular
season with nine shutouts, a PBC leading 0.70 GAA and a .824 save
percentage which also leads the conference. He ranks 12th in the
NCAA in GAA and 20th in save percentage. Junior Shane Howard leads
the team in scoring with seven goals and two assists while senior
Phil Jackson is just one point behind with five goals and five
assists. The Falcons secured the #2 seed in the Peach Belt
Conference Tournament and will host Francis Marion University in
the First Round for the third-straight year. |

North Georgia (9-6-1, 5-3) -- North
Georgia continued its impressive run to the end of the season by
knocking off Francis Marion on Saturday for their third straight
win. The Saints defeated the host Patriots 3-1 and secured
themselves the No. 4 seed in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament
and a home game in the first round. Manuel Hernandez scored two
goals to lead North Georgia to their fifth conference win of the
season. Gray Phelps also scored a goal and added an assist in the
win. The Saints now look towards Clayton State at home on Tuesday
night in the opening round of the PBC Tournament. The Lakers beat
down the Saints earlier in the year 4-0 so North Georgia will be
out for revenge, and this time it carries more significance. |

UNC Pembroke (10-4-2, 3-3-2) -- UNCP
registered a 1-1 record last week to finish up the regular season
… The Black and Gold captured the 1-0 victory over Francis
Marion on Wednesday evening as newcomer Adam Smith registered the
lone goal of the match in the 51st minute to deliver win for UNCP
… On Saturday, visiting Lander used a double-overtime goal
in the 103rd minute to seize the 1-0 victory over UNCP … The
Braves finished the regular season as the No. 6 seed in the
conference along with Sam Miles leading the PBC in goals (12),
points (28) and shots (62) … UNCP is first in the nation in
Division II in scoring offense and ninth in total goals …
This is the seventh time in 20 years the Black and Gold has
registered 10 or more wins in a season, and the first time in the
Phil Hindson era … UNCP will turn around and face the No. 3
seed in the conference, the Bearcats, again when the squad travels
to Greenwood, S.C., on Tuesday at the Jeff May Complex in the first
round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament … UNCP and
Lander will meet for the 30th time on Tuesday in a series in a
series controlled by the Bearcats … Lander will bring a
21-6-2 series advantage going into the game, as well as an
eight-game unbeaten streak … Last season, the Braves and
Bearcats battled in the opening round of the Tournament with Lander
capturing the 4-1 victory. |

USC Aiken (3-9-4, 1-5-2)
-- The University of South Carolina Aiken men’s
soccer team closed out its 2011 regular with an 0-1-1 record in its
final week of action … USC Aiken opened the week with a 2-2
double overtime tie with St. Andrews at the “Pacer Pit”
on Wednesday, Oct. 26 … The Pacers narrowly fell 2-1 to
Clayton State in their final match of the regular season at the
“Pacer Pit” on Saturday, Oct. 29 … USC Aiken is
the eighth seed in the Peach Belt Conference Men’s Soccer
Championship and the Pacers will face off against league regular
season champion Flagler in the opening round on Tuesday, Nov. 1
… The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. … The
Pacers concluded the 2011 regular season with a 3-9-4 record
… The Pacers were 1-5-2 in Peach Belt Conference action
during the regular season. |
