Lander, Flagler to Play in NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, IND -- After an amazing PBC Tournament final on Sunday night, both Lander and Flagler received word that their seasons will continue as they were named to the 32-team field as the NCAA released the championship bracket on Monday night. Flagler will travel to Wingate, N.C. to face Wingate on Wednesday while Lander will meet Carson-Newman. The southeast region is one of four 'super regions' in which six teams are selected for postseason play.

The winner of the Flagler/Wingate game will travel to face top-seeded Lees-McRae on Friday night while the Lander/Carson-Newman winner will meet second-seeded Anderson.

Flagler, the No. 5 seed, is coming off a 2-2 tie with Lander University in the PBC Tournament championship match on Sunday which ended in a 4-3 shootout decision for Lander. The Saints are riding a seven-match unbeaten streak in to Wednesday’s first round match. The last time Flagler reached a national postseason championship was in 2002. The Saints took on Mid-Continent College of Mayfield, Ky., and lost 2-1 in the first round of the NAIA National Championships in Bowling Green, Ky.

Lander is the sixth seed as they make their fourth straight tournament appearance. The Bearcats won their fourth PBC Tournament championship on Sunday and enter the NCAA Tournament with a 12-5-2 overall record.

The winners of the two sub-regions will meet on a campus site and be completed by November 22. The semifinals and final will be played December 3 & 5 at the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida.
