Nov 9, 2009 Lander, Flagler to Play in NCAA Tournament INDIANAPOLIS, IND -- After an amazing PBC Tournament final on
Sunday night, both Lander and Flagler received word that their
seasons will continue as they were named to the 32-team field as
the NCAA released the championship bracket on Monday night. Flagler
will travel to Wingate, N.C. to face Wingate on Wednesday while
Lander will meet Carson-Newman. The southeast region is one of four
'super regions' in which six teams are selected for postseason
play.
The winner of the Flagler/Wingate game will travel to face
top-seeded Lees-McRae on Friday night while the
Lander/Carson-Newman winner will meet second-seeded Anderson.
Flagler, the No. 5 seed, is coming off a 2-2 tie with Lander
University in the PBC Tournament championship match on Sunday which
ended in a 4-3 shootout decision for Lander. The Saints are riding
a seven-match unbeaten streak in to Wednesday’s first round
match. The last time Flagler reached a national postseason
championship was in 2002. The Saints took on Mid-Continent College
of Mayfield, Ky., and lost 2-1 in the first round of the NAIA
National Championships in Bowling Green, Ky.
Lander is the sixth seed as they make their fourth straight
tournament appearance. The Bearcats won their fourth PBC Tournament
championship on Sunday and enter the NCAA Tournament with a 12-5-2
overall record.
The winners of the two sub-regions will meet on a campus site and
be completed by November 22. The semifinals and final will be
played December 3 & 5 at the University of Tampa in Tampa,
Florida.
