AUGUSTA, GA -- The Peach Belt Conference has announced the 2009
men’s soccer All-Conference team from a banquet in Evans,
Ga., site of the 2009 Tournament. For the second time in PBC
history, the league awarded co-Players of the Year, this time to
Lander’s Adam Arthur and Clayton State’s Kyle Timm.
Flagler’s Joseph Toby was named the Freshman of the Year and
his head coach, John Lynch, the Coach of the Year.
Arthur becomes the second straight Bearcat to win the Player of
the Year honor, joining teammate Aaron Brittain who won in 2008. A
senior from York, England, Arthur leads the Peach Belt with 14
goals scored in 2009, he also leads the league in points with 35
and is tied for second in assists. He leads the conference in six
categories including game-winning goals with four. Arthur was named
the 2005 PBC Freshman of the Year and becomes the first men’s
soccer player ever to receive the Freshman and Player of the Year
awards in a career.
Kyle Timm is the third Laker to be named the PBC Player of the
Year and the second in the last three years after Tonny Madegwa was
named a co-Player of the Year in 2007. A junior from Johannesburg,
South Africa, Timm led the Peach Belt Conference in assists with
nine and was second in assists per game. A midfielder, he was also
instrumental in leading the Clayton State defense, which has
allowed a league-low 15 goals to be scored this season and are
second in the Peach Belt in goals against average.
Joseph Toby was a key part of the Flagler offense and becomes
the first Saint to receive a major PBC award since the school
joined the conference starting with the 2009 season. From
Jacksonville, Fla., Toby started in 18 of 19 games in his first
season and was fifth on the team with 11 points after scoring three
goals with five assists. Toby had the game-winning goal in two
contests for Flagler this year and is ranked in the PBC top 10 in
shots and shots per game.
John Lynch had the unenviable task of bringing his team into a
new conference in 2009, but the coach didn’t miss a beat and
led the Saints to the 2009 Peach Belt Conference regular season
championship and the #1 seed for their first PBC Tournament. In his
11th year as the coach of the Saints, Lynch’s team is ranked
in the top three in the PBC in goals scored and fewest goals
allowed.
The 2009 All-Conference team is listed below as selected by the
league’s head coaches. Coaches were not permitted to vote for
their own players.
