Aug 20, 2009 Peach Belt Releases Mens Soccer Preseason All-Conference Team AUGUSTA, GA -- The Peach Belt has released the men’s
soccer preseason All-Conference team from the league office in
Augusta. The team was selected by the league’s head coaches
and, due to a tie at midfielder, features 12 players for 2009.
Lander led the way with four players on the team while Clayton
State, North Georgia, USC Aiken and defending PBC Champions Francis
Marion had two apiece.
Leading the way for Lander are forwards Adam Arthur and Aaron
Brittain. Brittain was named the 2008 PBC Player of the Year after
scoring 12 goals with five assists for the Bearcats, who advanced
to the PBC Tounament finals and the NCAA Tournament. Arthur was
named first-team All-Conference after scoring 11 goals with seven
assists. Both players were in the top three in the league in goals.
Jamie Davidson was also named All-Conference as a midfielder. The
senior scored four goals and was ranked sixth in the PBC with six
assists. Jamie Ramm is the final Bearcat to make the preseason
team, coming from the defense. Ramm missed time last year with an
injury, but still scored two goals and was named All-Conference in
2007.
Kyle Clinton led Francis Marion and was ranked fourth in the PBC
with 10 goals as the Patriots won both the PBC regular-season
championship and the PBC Tournament. A senior, Clinton was named
All-Conference and All-Region in 2008, adding five assists to his
10 scores. Ivan Juric was one of the most prolific scoring
midfielders in the PBC in 2008, finishing the year with eight goals
and seven assists to be tied for fifth in the league in total
points. A junior, Juric was named All-Conference last season.
Clayton State’s Leighton Fredericks led the PBC in goals with
13 and was named the PBC Freshma of the Year. Returning for his
sophomore season, he was also named All-Conference in 2008. Joining
Fredericks on the preseason team is midfielder Kyle Timm. A team
captain for the 2009 Lakers, Timm was named All-Conference in 2008
after scoring a goal with four assists.
Troy Watson was named to the 2008 All-Tournament team for USC
Aiken. A junior midfielder, Watson scored three goals with a pair
of assists for the Pacers, including a goal in USCA’s upset
win over Clayton State in the PBC Tournament. John Lesko was named
All-Conference and All-Tournament for the Pacers in 2008. He scored
twice with one assist from the defense and was named the
team’s most valuable player.
North Georgia’s Ben Chedgy was named first-team
All-Conference as a defender last season. The junior anchored a
defense that recorded four shutouts and held opponents to fewer
than 10 shots per game while playing more minutes than any other
Saint. Goalkeeper Rade Tanaskovic led the PBC in saves and was
second in save percentage. He was also named a Goalkeeper of the
Week.
