Sep 4, 2007 Clayton State Ranked in Men's and Women's Soccer Ranked In Top 25 AUGUSTA, Ga.-- The Clayton State Lakers men's and women's soccer
teams both broke through into the top 25 this week in the lastest
poll released by the NSCAA. The men's team comes in at #15 while
the women's team is 21st. Both are the only PBC teams ranked in
their respective polls.
On the men's side, it marks the first time that Clayton State has
been ranked in the national Division II Top 25 since the 2005
season. The Lakers were ranked eighth in last season’s
preseason Division II Top 25. Clayton State opened the season with
two straight shutouts in the Laker Shootout over the weekend
– a 5-0 victory over Belmont Abbey and a 3-0 victory over
Anderson.
For the women, the Lakers are ranked 21st in the nation after a
1-0-1 start to the 2007 season. It marks the first time that
Clayton State has been ranked in the national Division II Top 25
since the 2005 season. The Lakers were ranked 19th in last
season’s preseason Division II Top 25. Clayton State opened
the season with a 2-1 victory over Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday,
followed by a 2-2 tie at Newberry on Saturday.
