Peach Belt Releases Men’s Golf All-Conference Team

PINE MOUNTAIN, GA – The Peach Belt Conference has announced the 16-member men’s golf All-Conference team at a banquet on the eve of the 2012 Championships at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.  UNC Pembroke’s Jordan Walor was named the PBC Player of the Year while Georgia College’s Ryan Trocchio received the Freshman of the Year award.  Georgia Southwestern’s Andrew Danna was named the PBC Coach of the Year.

Walor caps his storied career at UNC Pembroke with the PBC Player of the Year award. The 2009 PBC Freshman of the Year, he has won eight tournaments in his career heading into the PBC, second-most in league history, including the 2010 PBC Championship played at Callaway Gardens.  In 2012, the senior from Wake Forest, N.C.,  led the Peach Belt with a 71.4 stroke average which, if he can maintain it through the end of the year, would be the third-lowest in PBC history.  A four-time PBC Player of the Week this season, he won three tournaments this year including the season-opening Honda of Columbia Fall Classic and the Magnolia Collegiate Invitational in March.  His three wins are more than any player in the PBC and his seven top-10 finishes are tied for the most in the Peach Belt.  He becomes the first UNCP men’s golf player to ever be named the PBC Player of the Year.

Ryan Trocchio played in seven of Georgia College’s nine tournaments in his first collegiate golf season.  A redshirt freshman from Norcross, Ga., he was fourth on the team in scoring with 74.1 strokes per round.  He had four top-10s in his seven tournaments including a tie for third at the Armstrong Pirate Invitational where he shot two rounds of 71.  Trocchio got stronger as the season progressed, finishing with a pair of top-10s in his last two tournaments heading into the PBC Championships.  He shot 71-69-68 to finish in a tie for 10th at the Bobcat Invitational and was a +1 217 in three rounds at the Bearcat Invitational, also tying for 10th.  Trocchio becomes the third Georgia College player to be named the Freshman of the Year, joining  Juan Bialet in 2005 and Joe Young in 2008.

In only his second year at the helm of the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes, Andrew Danna has turned the program into a national contender.   Currently ranked #14 in the nation by the Golf Coaches Association of America, the Hurricanes started the 11-12 season with a win at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate.  The win was one of three in the fall as the ‘Canes took the title at the RTJ Grand National Challenge and the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational.  GSW also has two second-place finishes this season and were ranked as high as #2 in the nation in the Golfstat head-to-head rankings.  Danna takes his first Coach of the Year award and becomes the first GSW golf coach to claim the honor.

The 16-member All-Conference team is listed below as selected by the league’s head coaches.  Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
