PBC Men's Golf Update - April 4

UNCP Finishes Second At Carolina Sands Intercollegiate

WHITE LAKE – Seventh-ranked UNCP held steady with a second-round 283 to inch up to second on the team leaderboard, while all-Americans Jordan Walor and Jonathan McCurry each finished in a tie for eighth on the individual leaderboard on Sunday afternoon at the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate.

Wingate, ranked 26th in the latest NCAA Head-To-Head Rankings by GolfStat.com, finished atop the team leaderboard for the second day in a row to run away with its third title of the season. The Bulldogs concluded the two-round event with a 20-under-par 556, including a tournament-best 277 in Saturday's opening round. Paced by three rounds of even-par or better, the Braves registered their ninth top-3 finish of the season in as many events with an 11-under-par 565. Barton (573), Mount Olive (577) and Coker (580) rounded out the top five.

Walor (75-66/141) keyed his seventh top-10 finish of the season with his tournament-best round on Monday, while McCurry (70-71/141) logged his fifth top-10 finish of the current campaign. Scott Lambert (69-74/143) and Carson Lanier (71-72/143) concluded the event in a tie for 12th place, while Michael Mullman (72-76/148) finished 33rd.

UNCP "Black" concluded the two-day event in 12th place with a second-round 308. Ian Locklear (71-75/146) carded a 75 to finish in a tie for 23rd, while Sam Stephenson (72-75/147) came away in a tie for 28th. Lewis Adams (77-75/152) and Beau Thompson (87-83/170) finished tied for 43rd and tied for 76th, respectively.

Wingate's Brian Denton recorded a par on the third playoff hole to win a sudden death matchup with teammate Clifford Blanquicet as the Bulldogs placed three players in the top five.

USC Aiken Finishes 16th at Insperity Augusta State Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The nationally 18th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken golf team finished in 16th place as a team at the Insperity Augusta State Invitational at the par-72, 7,143-yard Forest Hills Golf Club.

USC Aiken concluded the tournament with a three-round team tally of 873 (298-287-288).

JP Solis (Morelia, Mexico/Lico Morelia) was the top Pacer finisher, ending his efforts tied for 34th with a three-round score of 217 (73-74-70).
Three Pacers were in the top 50 individually in the event with Matt Atkins (75-73-71) and Hayden Letien (74-71-74) tied for 48th. Both Atkins (Owensboro, Ky./Henderson State) and Letien (Sumter, S.C./Sumter) concluded play with a three-round tally of 219.

Texas Christian's Julien Brun claimed individual medalist honors in the Insperity Augusta State Invitational with a three-round score of 202 (68-65-69). Brun bested second-place finisher Dylan Frittelli (68-67-68=203) of Texas by one stroke.

Texas (282-277-279) and Augusta State (283-276-279) both ended the three-round tournament with a total team tally of 838. Texas would go on to claim the Insperity Augusta State Invitational title with a two-hole playoff victory over the Jaguars.

The USC Aiken golf team will next look for its ninth Peach Belt Conference crown in the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Championship.

The 2012 Peach Belt Conference Championship will be held on Monday, April 9 and Tuesday, April 10 at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.  The championship is being hosted by Columbus State.

Falcons Finish Seventh at Argonaut Invitational

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo men's golf team finished seventh at the University of West Florida Argonaut Invitational in Pensacola, Fla. The Falcons were led by junior Austin Murphey (Opelika, Ala./Lee-Scott Academy) who shot a three-round score of 221 which was just four-over par. Murphey tied for 14th overall in the event. The Falcons finished ahead of the University of New Orleans while the University of North Alabama won the event.

Junior Andrew Lowry (Decatur, Ala./Wallace State C.C.) finished with a score of 223 just seven-over par. He tied for 20th overall. Freshman Juan Noce (Posadas, Argentina) shot a 228 and was tied for 35th overall. Freshman Andres Morales (Cuernavaca, Mexico/Colegio Marymount) shot a 232 and finished 42nd overall while senior Aaron Ebert (Huron, Ohio/St. Mary's Central Catholic) rounded out the Falcon squad with a 239 good for 45th overall.

Murphey shot the lowest round of the tournament for the Falcons in the third round with a one-under par 71.

The Falcons will return to action April 9-10 at the Peach Belt Conference Championship in Pine Mountain, Georgia.
