PANAMA CITY, FLA -- Flagler College got the 2010 spring golf
season off to a great start as they cruised to a 20-stroke win at
the Outback Intercollegiate. The Saints posted a 580 for the
36-hole tournament at the par-72, 6831-yard Hombre Golf Club with
Joel Dahlenburg taking home medalist honors. Columbus State
finished third at the event with Armstrong Atlantic State fifth and
Georgia Southwestern seventh. 15 teams competed at the first event
of the spring season.
Dahlenburg fired a three-under-par 141 (72-69) and edged out
teammate Andrew Pressentin who finished with a 1-under 143 for the
top spot. Pressentin was the leader in the clubhouse after the
first 18 with a 68. Patrick Lamb finished in a tie for fifth place
with a 147 while Chris Bray shot a 151. Justin Wingo rounded out
the scorers for Flagler with a 156. This is the first tournament
Flagler has won since claiming the North-South Intercollegiate Mar.

CSU's Justin Grice shot an outstanding two-under par 70 on Tuesday
to help lead the Cougars to a third place finish. Grice finished
the two rounds at 151 (81-70). Junior Michael Hicks rebounded from
yesterday's 79 and carded a one-over par 73. South African Steven
Paine had a better showing on Tuesday (77) and finished at 163
(86-77) for the tournament. Ben Kishigian shot 155 (76-79) and
Stephen Swanepoel, who fired a 73 in Monday's opening round,
injured his wrist in Tuesday's play and had to withdraw.
Armstrong Atlantic State fired a 311 in the second round to move
up one spot into fifth. Sophomore Matt Motes paced the Pirates on
the second day with a three-over-par 75 score, finishing the
tournament with a two-day 154 total. Freshmen Jacob Tilton and
Tyler Erickson each shot 79s on Tuesday and also finished the
tournament with a two-day 154 total. Junior Ridge Purcell carded a
second-round 78 and finished the tournament with a 157 total, while
junior Aaron Elrod shot a 79 on Tuesday and also finished with a
157 total.
Georgia Southwestern was in second place following the first round
after shooting a 300 but slipped a bit in the second with a 328 to
finish in seventh, one stroke behind Cape Fear CC. Craig Gibson
shot a 70 in the first round and was 154 to lead the team in the
tournament. J.P. Griffin finished five strokes back with Tyler
Williams and Nate Gahman tied at 160.
