Sep 24, 2008 GSW's McKenney Wins Coker Intercollegiate; Lander Second Georgia Southwestern's Adam McKenney fired an eight-under 136 to
capture the Coker Intercollegiate title in Orlando, Fla. Lander
finished second as a team, just one stroke behind Florida
Southern.
McKenney shot rounds of 67-69=126 on the par-72 Orange County
National Golf Club course in Orlando, edging out Florida Southern's
Judson Eustaquio by two and FSU's Danny Evelyn by three. The
Georgia Southwestern team shot a nine-over-par 297 in the second
round to finish plus-nine for the tournament, seventh place
overall.
Led by Charlie Hoyle's 4-under-par 140, the Lander men's golf team
finished second of 12 teams. Hoyle shot 70 in both rounds and
finished in fourth place among the 60 golfers. Bryan Newton
(70-72=142) tied for seventh; Billy Belair (73-71=144) and Roberto
Nasalli-Rocca (68-76=144) tied for 10th; and Cooper Tinsley
(72-77=149) tied for 38th. Lander led the tournament after the
first round when the Bearcats fired a 280 for a two-shot lead over
Florida Southern.
Armstrong Atlantic State finished one stroke behind Georgia
Southwestern in eighth place with a 586. Senior Chris Wolfe shot a
two-over-par 74 on Tuesday to finish tied for 10th individually
with an even-par 144 total. The All-American has finished in the
top 10 in his last five events, dating back to last season, and has
finished in the top 10 in seven of his last nine tournaments.
Freshman Matthew Motes carded the day's best round for AASU,
shooting a one-under-par 71 to finish tied for 31st individually
with a four-over-par 148 total. Sophomore David Patterson carded a
second-round 76 to finish tied for 38th with a 149 total, while
freshman Dustin Allen shot a second straight 75 to finish tied for
44th with a 150 total. Sophomore Parker Gordon rounded out the AASU
scoring with a 79, finishing tied for 48th with a 151 total.
