AASU's Wolfe Finishes 3-0, Helps USA Defeat Japan

TOKYO, Japan (July 18) - Armstrong Atlantic State junior men's golfer Chris Wolfe defeated Daisuke Okabe, 72-73, on Friday in the final day of the 2008 Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship on Thursday, helping USA capture the title. Wolfe was one of only two golfers on the US squad to finish the event undefeated, going 3-0 in his matches.

Team USA defeated Japan by a 37-23 score, winning eight of the 12 matches on Friday. Wolfe's one-over-par 72 was his best round of the event and he joined North Carolina golfer Kevin O'Connell as the only two USA players to win all three matches. The win was the 25th for the USA in the 33 meetings between the two countries since the first championship was held in 1975.

Wednesday, Wolfe teamed with Valdosta State's Brent Witcher to defeat Hiroki Abe and Hiroki Nishida, 142-143. Yesterday, Wolfe came back from a four-shot deficit at the turn to knock off Yoshihiro Kamei, 75-78.

The junior from Warner Robins, Ga., is the first American AASU student-athlete to represent the United States in international competition in the Peach Belt era.
