Apr 9, 2008 GCSU Finishes 2nd at Emerald Coast Collegiate GULF BREEZE, Fla. – The Georgia College & State
University golf team bounced back strong at their last
regular-season tournament this week by placing second at the
Emerald Coast Collegiate hosted by the University of West Florida.
The Argos won the tournament, played at the par-72, 7,041-yard
Tiger Point Golf Club.
The Bobcats totaled a 283-292-296=871 to top Valdosta State
University, who came in third by 10 strokes. Lynn niversity
followed at fourth with an 887 and the niversity of North Alabama
came in fifth shooting a team 894. UWF took the tournament medal by
13 strokes with an impressive team score of 858.
Four out of the five Bobcat golfers finished in the top-20.
Freshman Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) led the team by tying for eighth
shooting 71-74-73-218. Only one stroke behind at 10th was senior
Juan Bialet (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Senior Francisco Bide
(Buenos Aires, Argentina) started out strong shooting a 68 but
finished with a 74 and 78 to place 12th with sophomore Niclas
Johansson (Skanor, Sweden) finishing right behind tying at 13th
with a 221. Rounding out the scores was senior Kyle Collins
(Milledgeville, Ga.) who struggled a bit this weekend placing 69th
with a 240.
Georgia Southwestern also played in the event, finishing 15th of
the 17 teams. Christopher Hall was the low shooter for the
Hurricanes, coming in a tie for 54th after 74-76-84=234. Adam
McKinney was in 63rd at 237 and Michael Harris at 67th with a
239.
Individual medalist honors went to the Argos’ Kyle Scott,
carding a 66-70-70=206, good for 10-under. He was one of four
players with sub-par rounds.
