Chris Wolfe both won their respective tournaments which finished
play on Tuesday.
Junior Chris Wolfe shot a three-over-par 74 on Tuesday, earning
his fourth individual title of the year at the Larry Nelson
Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Kennesaw State University. Wolfe
finished the tournament with a two-over-par 215 total, tying for
low medalist honors with Andrew An of Mercer and Gideon Pienaar of
Central Arkansas.
The only Division II school in the field, the Pirates fired a 302
on Tuesday and finished the tournament in fifth place with a 917
total. Host KSU won the team title wire-to-wire, finishing with an
878 total, 22 strokes ahead of Campbell (900). Gardner-Webb (909)
and Mercer (913) finished third and fourth.
Wolfe's fourth win extends his own single-season tournament record
and the Warner Robins, Ga., native now has seven individual titles
in his career, tying for second all-time in Peach Belt Conference
history with Jamie Stanley of USC Aiken (1993-97). Jon Wingate
fired a one-over-par 72 on Tuesday and finished tied for 16th with
a 229 total, while freshman Parker Gordon notched a 78 and finished
tied for 36th with a 235 total. Justin Smith carded an 80 and tied
for 48th with a 240 total, and Daniel Mobley rounded out AASU's
scoring with a final-round 78, tying for 54th with a 242 total.
Columbus State's Andrew Georgiou fired a final round 68 on Tuesday
to propel himself to the individual championship of the Buccaneer
Invitational hosted by Barry University. Georgiou finished the
54-hole event, contested at Miami's Westview Country Club, with a
three-round total of 211 (-5) and helped the Cougars finish second,
just two shots in back of Barry for the team title.
The win for Georgiou is the first of his collegiate career at CSU.
He opened play Monday morning with an even-par 72, then followed
with a one-under 71 in the afternoon round and entered play on
Tuesday tied for fourth place. His final-round 68 was bettered only
by Alejandro Velasquez of St. Thomas University with a 67.
Velasquez tied with two others for second place, two shots back of
Georgiou.
JP van der Walt entered Tuesday tied for second place and still
managed to finish in the top five with a solid round of 74 to tie
for fifth at 214. Kyle Albright (220) followed Monday's
second-round 69 with a 73 on Tuesday to tie for 18th. Freshman
Michael Hicks (224, T40) carded an even par 72, while Tyler
Cashbaugh (237, T71) shot 76 on Tuesday.
Barry shot a final round 289 to hold off the Cougars and win by two
shots with a team total of 865. Nova Southeastern was third at 871,
while Johnson and Wales finished fourth at 876 and Lynn fifth at
878. Brevard Community College, Florida Tech, Flagler, Warner
Southern, St. Leo, Eckerd, St. Thomas, and Northwood rounded out
the field.
