Sep 26, 2007 AASU's Wolfe Wins Again; Columbus State Fifth at Coker Invitational ORLANDO, FLA -- Armstrong Atlantic State’s Chris Wolfe won
his second straight tournament as he shot 68-66 in the Coker
College Invitational in Orlando. The event featured six Peach Belt
Conference teams of which Columbus State was the highest finisher
in a tie for fifth place with a two-round 576. Armstrong Atlantic
and Lander were one stroke behind at 577 and tied for seventh while
GCSU was ninth at 579, Clayton State 11th at 586 and UNC Pembroke
18th with a 595. St. Edwards won the event with a 562.
Wolfe finished the tournament with a two-day 134 total,
10-under-par and tied with Matt Smith of St. Edwards. Tournament
officials did not allow a playoff, so the two players will share
the title - the fifth for Wolfe in his career, extending his own
AASU record.
CSU carded a round of 293 in the final round, despite solid golf
from a trio of players. Andrew Georgiou fired a solid round of 70
(-2) and CSU also got another great round from Kyle Albright with a
71 (-1). JP van der Walt added a 73 to put CSU at -2, but freshmen
Tyler Cashbaugh and Michael Hicks each posted rounds of 79 to put
CSU at +5 on the day.
For Armstrong Atlantic, Daniel Mobley fired a second-round 74 and
finished with an even-par 144 total for the tournament. Mitch
Baxley rebounded from a first-round 79 to shoot a two-under-par 70
for a 149 total in the tournament, while Justin Smith shot a 76 on
Tuesday to finish with a 151 total. Tanner Farr rounded out the
Pirates' scoring with a 75 on Tuesday, finishing at 154.
For Lander, Seb Brown finished 10th in the field of 105 golfers
after he shot 72-69 for a two-day 142. Charlie Hoyle finished 24th
with 71-73=144, Billy Belair 28th with 72-73=145, and Patrick
Wilson rounded out the Bearcats final total in 35th with 72-74=146.
Lander's fifth golfer, Cooper Tinsley shot 76-79=155.
GCSU fired a 292 on the final day to finish three over par. Joe
Young was tied for 10th in the individual standings after rounds of
71-71. Niclas Johannson was also under par for the event with a
72-71 to finish tied for 18th. Kyle Collins came in 73-75 (t52nd),
Juan Bialet 71-80 (t74th) and Clint Johns 78-75 (t81st) for the
Bobcats.
Clayton State’s Will Wilcox shot a 69 in the final round to
vault into 9th place with a 141. Matthew Morrison was the top
finisher for UNC Pembroke with a 71-75 for 35th.
All of these teams will return to action at next week’s
AFLAC/Cougar Invitational which is being hosted by Columbus State.
